food sources above, whole grains can be helpful in increasing your
dietary fiber intake. However, when relying on whole grains for your
dietary fiber intake, do not stop at the label information on the front
of the package, even if the label says "contains whole grains." To
assure yourself of optimal fiber intake from whole grains, be sure to
take one of the following steps: (1) purchase your whole grains in bulk
form (raw and unprocessed, and typically found in container bins in the
bulk food section of the grocery store); (2) purchase products that
stipulate "100% whole grain," or (3) flip the product over and take a
close look at the Nutrient Facts panel for fiber content and make sure
that you are getting between 4-14 grams of fiber per cooked cup.
