QuoteReplyTopic: Shaving the entire head really short - Bad? Posted: January 04 2005 at 4:57am
Hey guys, just wondering if it's bad for the hair if you shave it down really short (1) on occasion. Will this make hair thicker, curlier, have less shine or simply be less healthy when it grows back? I've heard all sorts of things and I'm confused. I've heard the opposite also, that people who have damaged their hair (with dye and bleach and whatnot) are recommended to shave all their hair off and start over in order to restore the hair's natural health. Any information on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cutting your hair in any way (even shaving it) will not affect the quality of the hair that has yet to grow from the head. In short (no pun intended), the answer to your question is: no.
The only reason for shaving your head (aside from enjoying being bald. of course) is if your hair is so badly damaged by a misguided chemical treatment of some sort that you can't even comb it.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

The reason for some misunderstandings (eg curls that appear or disappear) is linked to a change in your hair that was going on for a while, but became apparent after the short cut (slightly curly hair can hang straight due to the weight of the hair, etc.).
The answer is then: no it is not bad, yes something could very occasionnaly happen that is a bit unexpected, no it is not a fundamental change to your hair. Once back to the old length it would still look the same (healthier if you've taken good care of it, unhealthier if you didn't).
