Sounds like this is a real dye job she did as part of her characters evolution on Smash.

I think McPhee looks better as a brunette but she is becoming one of my favorites for her willingness to change it up. Girls who have fun with their looks are my favorite.

Wig.  She and Megan Hilty - who is blonde on the show, albeit with longer hair - both wear the Marilyn wigs when portraying the character in the musical.
3 pm is simultaneously too late and too early to start anything.

I think it looks great, Smash will probably not last another season due to ratings so we may get a bigger hair change soon.
