I've just started the swimming unit in my gym class and I've heard different things about the effects chlorine has on hair. Is it harmful?

I usually only wash my hair once a week. Should I start washing it more now that I'm swimming?

I've heard it can damage your hair and turn blonde hair green. You should either wear a swimming cap and tuck all your hair underneath, or I've heard you could wet your hair with plain tap water before going swimming so your hair is too saturated to take in mych chlorine. I think I also heard you could coat your hair in conditioner before swimming, and that would also help, but I'm not sure.

I agree with Kuroneko. You could also oil your hair heavily before putting on the cap, then shampoo it out after your're done.
