This new forum is a good idea. I am always looking for new information and help with my horrible hair problem. I used to have hair so thick I could barely brush it. About 2 years ago I started dieting and was doing pretty well with not eating less than 1,000 calories. About 6 months into the diet my hair started coming out in big chunks. I got pretty scared and stopped the diet. It didn't help. I continued to lose my hair. Now it is so thin that I wear hats and do all sorts of things to try and cover it up.I am heartbroken that my hair has not grown back and still seems to be getting worse.I have read about Propecia but supposedly it is dangerous for women to use. I hate Rogaine. It is so messy and smells bad as far as I am concerned. I heard that nettle and saw palmetto works. Does anyone know about those herbs?Judy

I don't have a hair loss problem but recently the subject has come up around me numerous times. That's why I dropped by this message board, to see if there was anything written about Flaxseed. I didn't see anything. Anyway, I would suggest that everyone take Flaxseed, especially anyone losing their hair. It can't hurt, and it just might help. A decent website to look at is http://www.flaxseed.com.If you want to read my story, continue on, though it may get long....My father is a Veterinarian and his specialty has always been dermatology. In about 1990-1991 he started a company to market a new petfood that was high in omega-3 fatty acids. The petfood was formulated by another doctor and manufactured elsewhere, he just marketed it. The reason why he was excited about marketing the petfood was because of the amazing results that he witnessed. Anyone that owns a dog will tell you that dogs have lots of skin problems. In fact it's the #1 problem with dogs. And about 99% of it is avoidable, if we'd just stop feeding our dogs Alpo and table scraps! This petfood would actually save you money in Veterinary bills, but I digress... The point is that my father has been researching this for 8+ years. My grandmother has lupus and her hair was starting to get thin and my dad thought that she might benefit from a diet with increased Omega-3 fatty acids, so he got her some flaxseed. She's been on it for over a year and everyone at the hair dressing parlor says her hair has never looked better. Not much of this I knew until recently. About 6 months ago my wife's best friend started to lose her hair. At this point they think she may have lupus. She's quite young and is quite distressed about this. She's been to many dermatologists and other doctors and they've done everything from tell her it was stress related to shoot liquid nitrogin into her scalp. (To SHOCK the scalp into regrowing hair, OUCH!) Once I heard of this I decided to give my dad and my grandfather (who is a retired pathologist) a call and see if they knew anyone in her area that was a reputable specialist she could go see. My father started telling me about the flaxseed he had my grandmother taking and that she might want to try that. He also told me that he was going to an Omega-3 fatty acid convention in Chicago the next week. When he got back from the convention he told me all about it and was amazed at all the research that has been going on lately. Back in 1990 no one was looking into this. Now I've actually seen Omega-3 fatty acids talked about on the news. So my dad decides that we've all got to start taking this flaxseed. And he's never been a believer in vitamins or anything like that. He ordered about 100 pounds of flaxseed and has been giving it out to all his friends and relatives lately. Back to my wife's friend. We went to visit her and took some flaxseed with us. I told her about it and she wanted to try it. Within two days she had grown stubble in her newest bald spot and she wasn't losing any hair. She was amazed. She started taking it religiously in fairly high amounts. At the time we hadn't gotten the 100 pounds yet and she had to cut back. When she cut back she started losing hair again. Now we've got her a decent supply and she takes it everyday and she's not losing any of her hair. It's not growing back however at a pace that she would like and she is still exploring all of her medical options. The stubble that had grown back so quickly is still only stubble. So this isn't some miracle cure for baldness but it may help you keep the hair you've already got. It's also good for so many other things. Read http://www.flaxseed.com for more information on it.My wife and I take Flaxseed everyday and we definately see positive results.Hope this helps someone. Knowledge is power! ;-)Jonathan> This new forum is a good idea. I am always> looking for new information and help with my horrible> hair problem. Please respond, I don't want to lose anymore> hair.> Angelica-----I also lost a ton of hair from dieting and found a great nutritionist who helped me get my act togetehr ...turns out that I was protein deficient altough I was eating plenty of protein i was not absorbing any of it to do my body any good!!! So she has me taking digestive enzyms with every meal as well as a balanced zone diet that does include oil...you can buy flaxseed oil at the health food store as well! Even if it does not do a thing for hair it is a great antioxidant which in turn would affect overall health includung the scalp...There are also wonderful studies on Saw Pawmetto as a hormone antagonist for the scalp...supposedly women lose hair due to excess androgens(male hormone) and estrogens which are in alot of meat products that are not organic...(I hear sometimes organic food is not much safer due to fraud and lack of testing of claims so it is a good idea to use this herb that helps combat excess levels in the scalp ( and good for men with prostate troubles too!)There are newer scalp preparations on the market such as nioxin that contain saw pawmetto and work well at the scalp to help grow hair...with a good balanced diet and taking some b-vitamins for stress as well as the digestive enzymes to help with absorbing your nutrients better..and a few scalp treatments that contain this herb..it is amazing what you will see!!! my nutritionist has a website about hairloss and also can do hair analysis to see what nutrients you are lacking as well as toxcicities....supposedly copper and mercury make your hair fall out and they are commonly ingested with certain foods!!!....Anyway her name is beth ellyn and her web site is http://www.meltdown.com...very interesting and has helped me immensley!!!! Good luck....DeeP.S. The only suspicion I have about the lady growing back hair in two days with flaxseed is that hair grows in three month cycles and to see new growth that fast is scientifically impossible....so make sure you give your treatment plans at least three months to work...I know as I am a hairdresser and have studied tricology in depth.
