I've been bleaching my black hair for about 2 years with 30 or 40 volume peroxide. Lately i've noticed my hair isn't growing back as full (i.e. when i part my hair i can see more scalp then before) I can only assume this is because of the bleach. What kind i do to prevent it? How can i get my hair to grow back? Is shaving one's head just an old wives tale?
Well, your hair is definitely hurting. While I doubt the bleach is pulling out your hair, it has probably damaged it beyond tolerable levels, leading to severe breakage. Start using a heavy 5 minute conditioner to strengthen your hair, and stop bleaching. Shaving your head will basically erase the damage you've done, but you'll have to sit through it growing back, which is never that fun. :) Let your hair air dry, don't use curlers or crimpers or irons, and try to avoid anything that'll dry it out, such as hair spray. If you still feel a need to style it in odd ways, hair sticks, combs, and barettes work just fine. :) What youve done to your hair definitely isn't healthly, but with a little TLC, it should bounce back.
