Balayage ok for past dying?

Before I go to the salon I wanted to ask fellow hair-doer's. :D
I have long, dark brown hair and last summer I did a red ombre on it. Let if fade out until January and got it dyed back to my normal hair color. What I am wanting to do now is a honey or caramel balayage. Would that affect the past coloring in my hair or has it been long enough? I don't want to end up having pink ends or having the color be funky. Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated!
