Hi...I hope that no one think's I'am being a bawlbaby or anything...but I just feel so depressed. I recently had surgery on 1-19-04 I had a hysterectomy. I NEVER knew that the aftermath of anesthesia and morphine could reek havoc on the hair. My hair became extremly dry and course and the color even though it was a permanent dye was uneven. I thought I would tame it down by doing a "Over-The Counter" Hair Straightener by Ogilvie. Everything seemd to be going fine until my hair was finished with the process and was drying. IT WAS FRIED!!!! I now know that I should have waited until my recovery time was over and went to the salon. My sister a hairdresser came over and trimmed 2 inches off and had me deep conditioning it. The next morning my hair seemed even worse so in my frustration I took matters and scissors into my own hands. I then took clippers to what was left of my hair and YES I buzzed it all off. I could not believe the feel of my hair as it lay in my bathroom sink...a giant brillow soap pad to say the least. I'am now wearing a bandana sad to say but it was really the only solution. My hair grows rather fast and I should be able to ditch the bandanas around the beginning of May. Of course my hair will be short but healthy! I'am hopeing so anyways. I miss my long hair. I find myself reaching for my combs or hair clips. My reason for having long hair was that I loved to feel a breeze blow through it and the wind would make it dance around my face...that was comforting to me. I now feel like all of this is a bad dream and I can't seem to wake up. Not only am I dealing with issues of womanhood and a hysterectomy but now the loss of my hair.

I am sorry that you had to go through all of this. Just think in about 4 months from now, your hair will atleast be as long as Halle Berry's and you can have fun, putting in pretty clips and handbands. If it makes you feel any better, I cut my hair supershort and now I look like a little boy and I am getting more and more depressed about it every passing day. But I just remind myself that in another couple of months I'll atleast have something that resembles a bob cut. Hang in there, sweetie. You'll get through it :)

I can empathise with how you must be feeling right now. It may have been difficult to buzz your hair off, but it was actually a pretty brave thing most other people couldn't do. In the end you'll be grateful that you'll have only healthy new growth, and won't have to worry about damaged chemical ends. Since you have the advantage of starting fresh with your growth, you can learn about all the proper care techniques now so your new hair will be even more beautiful. There are many others here growing out our hair, so you can look to us for encouragement and help whenever you need it.

Thank You I Hate My Haircut_Girl for the positive reply. Yes you are right...in time I should be feeling alot better as my hair grows back and I can style it and such. I'am going through some pretty bad aftermath right now from my surgery...rageing hormones. It makes a person really depressed at times. A bad haircut...been there...saw that...never got a T-shirt. I can understand your depression as well. I had a hairdresser wack at my hair about 2 year's ago...HATED IT!!!! It looked like a ugly 70ties shag...but I was patient and kept it pinned up and let it grow out. That is what I plan on doing to get through this...be patient and learn from my mistakes and NEVER to make them again!!!! I'am sure your hair is healthier now then most because of the cut. I can't help but notice now other people with long hair that is so chemically damaged. They are in desperate need of a trim or a cut but of course they can't see this for themselves and knowing that my hair is growing back in healthier makes me feel better. Lastly...I have found a few receipes and actually have used them in the past as how to stimulate the hair follicle for faster growth and YES these receipes do work...email me and I will copy and paste and share them with you.

awwwwwwwwwwwww Thank You Jenna...your post made me actually smile and feel alot better. It wasn't at all hard to buzz my hair off...if you would have seen my hair you probably would have done the same thing! Your are so right...my hair will be healthier as it grows back and I guess that is a plus + in this negative. I do however need to learn about not being so taken in with chemical products and their promises...a downfall of mine! I'am not going to make any more commitments with any permanents such as hair dyes, perms, straighteners, etc... I know I learned my lesson this time and will let me hair grow back longer then before. My only pet peeve is gray hairs. I would appreciate any advice that can be given on how to cover them other then with a permanent dye. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW...just how long is your hair Jenna and how long have you been growing it?

I'm glad I could help Longbraidz. I can actually relate, because a few years ago I used bleach on my hair and it became very damaged. It took about two years to finally grow it out, so by now it's only about 1" past my shoulders. As for the grey hairs, I know my mom does it at a salon and it looks completely natural. Could you please send me those hair recipes too? I love natural approaches to hair.

LB, Sue's hair is 99.9% silky virgin brown in back, but she's got a few strands of grey in front and many at her sideburns. She is definitely coloring when the greys overtake her head, but at 44, she may have a year or two yet. She gets myriad compliments, but our girls and other relatives hate it for the most part. They want it cut!(???)
I've seen spectacular heads of grey hair, but Sue wants no part of that. As long as it remains long, any color, I'll be deliriously happy! As for you, if grey makes you feel older, color it! (lol) Whatever makes you happiest. Bob

Hi Bob S...Sue's hair sounds beautiful!!!! I sure hope she don't get discouraged by how other's feel and takes scissors in hand. If she does resort to coloring (permanent or semi)?...do you know if she will have it professionally done at a salon or use an over-the-counter product? I think I'am going to try a semi and wait until I get more silver/grey on the sides and then hopefully I will stop the semi and start to sport the Lilly Munster look. I would give ANYTHING for a silver/grey bold streak like she had

Hello again everyone ~waves~ I'am going to the "Hair & Alternative Therapies" to start a new thread where I'am going to copy and paste those recipes to stimulate hair growth. I'am also going to the "Hair Color" catagory and start a thread there on "Natural Hair Coloring" (chemical free) and also recipes on covering those pesky grays

Longbraid, I'm very sorry to hear what happened, especially since this is the second time you've had to buzz off your waist length hair (I read your previous story about the hair straightener ruining your hair on the blooper forums)!! I can't imagine it happening twice!! At least you know what to expect, and I hope it grows out soon!
