Hi, I have a small compulsive disorder... Trichotillomania. I have been pulling my hair since I was a teenager (now 38 years old) and go through bad phases and good phases. I've really don't it this time, and have gone through quite a heavy session over the past few months and although I don't have bald patches, have been pulling hair evenly from all over my head, resulting in a thinner look all over. It's awful and when I look in the mirror, I realise what I have done!!! HELP!

I have had beautiful thick hair before and KNOW I can again. I have purchased jojoba oil before but it's SOO expensive. What can I do to A) help promote growth in all the shafts I have pulled out and B) restore condition to the existing hair, which is dry split and dull?

I know there are no MIRACLE answers, but I'm hoping for something close to it.

I have two weddings to attend to before the end of the year (bridesmaid in both) and hoping to not be humiliated by my stupid hair!

The problem will not go away until address it in your mind. Once you do that....you won't need anything to keep your hair looking gorgeous.

This self destructive tendency you have is just like smoking, biting your nails, etc.......You can't stop doing it without help. Get some.

I don't say this to you out of insensitivity...I say it becasue i can relate...I had some self destructive tendencies as a teen too...but I went myself to seek help. I am really glad I did.

Take care

Hi MM,

I strongly advise you to seek professional help for the trich. Once you learn to control the tendencies, you can begin to regain the thick, beautiful head of hair that is rightfully yours.

You need to get professional help to stop you from the pulling. I have the same disorder, and have since childhood. I still have one area that I pull when I am extremely stressed out, and the hair no longer grows properly in that spot.

If you don't get help, you can end up not being able to grow the hair back because you have damaged the follicles too badly.

There are no quick or easy solutions. You need professional help for the trich, and patience combined with good health for growing back the hair.

Good luck, and my sympathies.
