Hair Razing Experience

My hair was in such bad shape from relaxing it, I decided to start over again and went really short getting it buzzed to only about 1/2 inch on top with a very close fade on the sides and back. The stylist recommended a line, with high angled sideburns, rounded over my ears and down the back with an etched out neckline she did with a buzzer which looked really cool. She told me with my skin tone, it would look better done with a razor, so I let her put lather on me and shave me with a straight razor which was pretty scary. My mom told me I am going to grow sideburns like a man and my hair is going to start growing all the way down the back of my neck. Has anyone else gotten this kind of haircut and knows if she is right or not?
