QuoteReplyTopic: Dry Hair?? Posted: November 06 2004 at 5:32pm
Hey all! Im not sure, but I think my hair could be dry. I do tend to get like flyaways (those little hairs that have broken off and stick out funny) and my hair naturally kinda flops like it turns this way and that at the ends, and Im not sure if its dry or what. It is mostly straight, but it has this wavy thing it does that makes it a little poofyish in the back.
I don't think I have split ends though, so thats good, it just seems to get kinda poofy and stuff. I do tend to get dry skin easy.
If so, what are some good dry hair remedies? I've heard of Jojoba oil, and I tried hot oil, but it seemed to work for a day. I also got some clarifying shampoo (suave) and used that today.
I tend to use finesse, and pantene pro-V. What are some good recommendations for dry hair? This talk of shampoos and what to use and not use can get rather confusing, but you people on here really seem good with the advice. Its just hard for me to tell what my hair is doing.

Hello!! Thank you for the information! I tried today to just sort of really shampoo my scalp, and not so much my hair. I also pretty much never use a blowdryer, Ive heard that can be not good for your hair.
Hmm, where might I find this Shea Butter? I was in the drugstore the other day and couldnt find it. Is it expensive?
Thank you for the information again, its nice to be able to share things like this and get some hair help, much appreciated!

I buy a product called President's Choice Out of Africa Shea Butter Conditioner. They make a shampoo too. I live in Canada. I buy it for about $4/litre at the grocery store. I think it may be a Canadian product, though. I don't know if it's widely available.
If you can't find a conditioner that contains Shea Butter, you can use natural Shea Butter. You might be able to find it in the skin care section of a health food store. To use it after shampooing, just put a blob in your hand, press your palms together and let the heat of your hands liquify it. Then, massage it into your scalp and through your hair. It feels great. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse it with tepid water.
Shea Butter just happens to be my favourite conditioner. There are many people on this board who use other methods that work beautifully for them. I'm sure you'll get some other suggestions which you may be interested in trying.
My user name is WAY too long. Just call me Juliana. :-)

Thank you very much for the suggestion! So as long as it contains shea butter. I looked for info online about it, and it seems there are shea butter products at Walmart, so I think I will try looking there. Thanks again! :)

Hi Eowyn/Laura,
Simply, I dilute my shampoo with water in a plastic bottle, and apply to the scalp in an amount just sufficient to make it suds. Not only do I use less shampoo this way, but it doesn't overly dry my hair, which helps reduce the frizzies around my head.
One trick you can do if you hair is being slightly unruly with the frizz is to move the part. When I do this, the strands seem to be more tamed. (Why this is the case, I don't know, it just is).
In my case, I think most of these unruly shorter hairs are merely regrowth -- new strands, not broken ones (though broken strands around the head can be the result for those who handle their hair very harshly).
Your hair may just have a slight bit of a natural wave to it. If so, it usually shows up near or at the ends.
Watch out for silicones in your haircare products. They block out moisture and over time can make your hair dry and brittle.

Hey Dave! Thank you for the information! I should try that diluting it. Does it make it harder to wash tho, because wouldnt you just get water and some bubbles, not like the gel stuff that shampoo's normal consistency is?
Yeah that could be it, just new growth hairs. Its kinda annoying, but it does that some. My hair does have a sort of natural wavyness to it.
