First of all this style was created with both scissors and thinning razor. The razor was used on the middle and ends to give the jagged edges but keep the length. Also, the texture of this hair is very straight and tends to naturally stand up (Asian hair). So the hair was cut to enhance the natural tendency to stick out. The razoing was done to give the spikey jagged edges. The over length and style is a ragged chin length bob.

This style would never work on hair that is fine/thin (without a perm) or naturally curly or wavy. Just would be hard to accomplish. Hair that is Asian would work great or hair that is thick or coarse.

How to style.

1. Use a clarifying shampoo to ruffle the hair cuticle. Or use a volumizing shampoo (Matrix Amplify) to blow out the cuticle.
2. Avoid rinse out conditioner to prevent hair from being too soft.
3. Use a volume enhancing gel at the ROOTS. Matrix Amplify Root Lift would work or something similar. Apply only to roots.
4. Blow dry hair upside down and then direct the airflow of blowdryer from the ends of the hair towards the roots. This is added ruffling.
5. Use a good hair paste (Edwin Paul) or hair wax (Redken Water Wax) and soften in the palms of your hand. Apply to ends and middle of hair and use your finger to twist and pull the hair out and away from the head. Use as much wax as necessary to get the firmness you desire.
6. Tease or backcomb the very back of the hair to get the fan look.
7. Style with your fingers. Don`t use brushes or comb or it will soften/flatten the look.

It appears that a burgandy color was added to the hair to give depth and highlight. You can do that with Manic Panic or similar color products.

To get even more hold finish the styling with a strong holding hairspray.

Cool style. Hope you can recreate it. If so, would love to see photos.

Best wishes,
Karen
