I have learned some very cute hair tricks through this website. I have thick, straight, brown hair to my shoulders. Any other ideas on what to do with it? So far I`ve tried doing pigtails with lots of little braids and I`ve tried doing twisties in front and pulling them back. I`d love to learn some more quick and easy ideas...
When you`re feeling funky, get a chunky `do that works on virtually any hair type. On dry hair, create several 1-inch and some 1/2-inch sections of hair. Tease each one at the roots (meaning, lightly comb toward the scalp), then spritz each chunk with hairspray (like Image Labs Shine Plus Firm Hair Spray or White Rain Collections Maximum Hold Hair Spray). Before the hairspray "dries," twist each chunk `round and `round, leaving the ends free, or secure them with a little string (Maria de Los Angeles, a stylist with Kim Lepine salon in New York City prefers styling wax--find it at drugstores in the ethnic-hair section--instead of hairspray for the twisting move; just warm the wax with your fingers for a few seconds before using it). For the final touch: Beginning at an imaginary line between your ears and the outermost corners of your eyes, pull a few pieces upward to the crown, then secure them with a teeny, matching hair claw. Leave a few pieces down around your ears for added coolness.
TWIST AND SHINE
This sleek updo is perfect for hiding dirty, I-slept-through-the-alarm hair. It looks like a lot of work, but it so isn`t. Start with wet or dampened shoulder-length locks and comb through a little shine enhancer (such as Paul Mitchell Gloss). Now, divide all your hair into three sections: one on each side of your head, and a third section that runs from your front hairline back along the top. This step is key for getting sleekness, according to stylist de Los Angeles. Using a natural-bristle brush, smooth the top section back to your crown, ponytail-style, and twist it so the ends flip upward. Secure it with a teeny hair claw or bobby pins. Next, pull a section from each side, twist and pin at the crown. Pick at the ends so they become one unified fringe, and spray on a little more shine enhancer.
BACK TO BASICS
This nature-girl style is a cinch for straight or slightly wavy hair. Put a little styling gel (like Salon Selectives Botanical Blends Texturizing Gel or Freeman Botanical Shaping Styling Gel) at your roots only, then flip your hair over and blow it dry. (Keep the dryer moving so it blows your hair all around.) When you flip it back up, voila--natural waves. Gently pat down any flyaways with a drop of styling cream (like Abba Botz Ultimate Styling Creme), advises de Los Angéles. (Avoid shine gels--they may cause hair to flatten.) Finally, pull a little section of hair loosely back and secure it at the crown (see photo).
This look is made to be messy!
The tress trick: Curl sections of your hair around a curling iron, but leave a couple of inches at the ends of your hair out of the iron. When all your hair is curled, just run your fingers through your hair so the waves blend together. Wanna set your hair overnight for this look? Pull your hair into a high, loose ponytail, then split the ponytail into about six sections and braid `em, leaving the ends unbraided. In the morning, cut out the elastic bands (much gentler on your hair than yanking `em out) and finger-style. Don`t brush. If you do, those waves will turn to frizz!
PONYTAIL POWER
How do you cope with bad hair days? Probably with a cute ponytail, according to a study by the folks at Neutrogena. If you’re one of the three out of five girls who do, check out these tips: Wanna dump da bumps? To get your hair smooth, hold your ponytail in one hand and, using a bristle brush, brush your hair into your hand. Don’t use regular rubber bands-they’ll snarl and shred your strands. Instead, get special snag-free elastic bands, like Smoothies Ponytail Holders. The hippest ponytails right now? Either smooth and high or low ’n loose. Instead of letting the rubber band show, take a small section of hair from under your ’tail, wrap it around the band and secure it with a bobby pin.
Luxe Locks To do: Gather a 2-inch section of hair at the center of your forehead and comb it up and back, twisting it slightly and securing with pins that are crossed . Fluff the ends of the hair and arrange softly across shoulders. Spray lightly to hold.
Do a Wet `Do! These two `dos are perfect for muggy summer mornings when you can`t take the heat of a blowdryer. They`re made for wet hair and are perfect options for humid (read: frizz-prone) weather.
1.To nail the braided bun look, first hold hair at the nape of the neck then separate it into three sections. Now split each section into two pieces, then twist them together, so you end up with three twisted chunks. Finally, braid these three chunks tightly so they kind of twirl onto each into a bun-like shape, tuck the ends under and secure the bun with bobby pins.
P.S: A really cute do for mostly summer and fall...make sure your hair`s a bit damp or wet. Check out www.teenmag.com. Go to Stylin` and then to Hair 101
