Okay I know I post about this way to much but I`m still totally bemuzed (Or confused) about this whole bleaching thing.

To anyone who`s had their hair bleached blonde (epsecially from black) how much did it cost? How long did it take to get rid of the damage and how much was there? Do you have pictures, especially before and after(I`m not sure what colour I`ll want it)? Can you dye other colours over it and wash it out(or let it fade out)?
This is my signature. It's not a very
good signature, but it's a signature
nonetheless.

From what I`ve seen on tv, they can bleach your hair either in chunks (they do this sometimes on people with dark hair for highlights), or they can do your whole head at once. I get the impression that it can burn a little bit.

Now, this is why people say not to do this at home-some people`s hair may turn orange in the process, which is why you should have a professional do this-they would probably know what to expect and how to get it the way you want it. Cost? I`d say 150, but that would be for both processes. Give or take 50 in most areas.

You can then put other colors on top of the blonde.
Like I`ve said before, I really don`t know how long the manic panic and others last. I do know that bleached hair is more porous and will "grab" the color longer (and retain it longer).

Damage would depend on how often you redye over it and how much of your hair you had bleached in the first place. But you would obviously have to worry about it getting dried out from the bleach.

To (I`ll call him squiggle it`s easier) Squiggle, I don`t want to melt all my hair. I`m just making sure I know what to do first. I don`t want to end up paying a lot of money to have wrecked hair that`s not even the right colour and then not being able to was any dye over it off.

Seems really expensive just for blonde hair. I don`t think I`m going to be able to afford it. How much does it cost afterwards to bleach the roots?

What do you mean by both processess? This seems overly complicated.

Two process-
The first is the bleach and the second whatever temporary/permanent color you want over it.
Salons usually charge more for this.

Touch ups can be from 30-70 bucks a pop.

Nobody said trying to be unique would be cheap :)

You can just do the bleached tips and then dye over them with crazy colors and that wouldn`t cost as much.

Vineman - It is absolutely a double process. First the stylist (and no, I would not recommend doing this by yourself at home) will take bleach and strip all of the existing color out of your hair. Depending on how dark you are will depend on how many times you will need to be bleached (sometimes it takes more than one bleaching if you`re really dark). After that then they will "tone" or deposit the color you want. Usually it costs about $50-100 depending on where you go, and it is time consuming. First bleaching will take between 2-3 hours (depending on whether or not they use heat, and depending on how many bleachings it will take to get the natural color out) then retouches every 2-3 weeks after that. Email me if you need more info.

I`ve done it myself. It`s sooo freakingg easy. I just picked up a bleach kit at CVS for 10-15 bucks and read the instructions then did it. It turned out great. Maxim makes a good kit. BTW I`m only 15 and was able to do it

Hi Vineman,

Remember that you can NEVER repair damaged hair, especially that which has been chemically processed or bleached. Hair is dead from the moment it grows out of your scalp, and without cellular regeneration it can never return to its original state. I don`t mean to scare you--just to urge caution at all times when processing hair.

I know hair is dead but I thought you could repair it using lots of conditioner? I`ve seen people with really bleached hair that doesn`t look very damaged at all. And it DOES get regenerated, it grows out and sure the new batch of hair that was bleached at the root That comes a lot later would be a lot less damaged?

Then again, I always wondered cause I heard that the Ancient Romans bleached their hair a lot and they didn`t have fancy New Neutrillium whatists conditioners back then.
