QuoteReplyTopic: Can't Duplicate What Stylist Did To My Hair - Help. Posted: February 25 2003 at 9:17am
Hi I have very very thick wavy/frizzy hair. My mom took me to get my hair straightend and the man who did my hair did an excellent job. There wasnt a wave or a bit of frizz. He told me I can buy a hair dryer attachment pik that will straighten my hair just like he did. Well, I bought the pik and hair straightening gel (it wasnt the exact same kind as his but it says it straightens hair it was called Straighten It!). When that didnt work I bought FX SpecialEffects Instant Straighten Out and to make a really long, annoying story short my hair is as gross as ever! I couldnt get it straight like he did and I think I wasted a little bit of money. Is there a possibility I'm doing something wrong? The pik didnt come with any intructions so I think I might be messing up somewhere. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Was that second gel by any chance pink? I think that might be the same wretched stuff that left my wavy hair a sticky, gunk-laden mess two summers ago. Definitely get away from that stuff! Anyway, what exactly did the stylist do to straighten your hair? Did he use the pik attachment? What products did he use? (I recommend finding out, then copying down the ingredient lists and getting a similar, lower-priced product if you don't want to splurge on salon stuff.)
Also, how wet was your hair when he began drying? That can make a difference, since hair reforms in its natural shape (curly, wavy, straight) as it dries. Another thing to note is that a stylist generally is in a better position (literally) to shape your hair, as he is standing over you and can direct the air accordingly. The angles are better for aiming the dryer straight down the hair shaft towards the floor--essential for getting frizzless hair.
I would consult your stylist again and explain the situation. At least you know that it IS humanly possible to get your hair looking great--all you have to do now is get the technique down. Good luck Marilyn!

I know just how you feel..but my hair is wavy/slightly curly...if you don't have a straightener then buy one...they aren't expensive..15 bucks?? I think! But even when your hair is dry try straightening your hair in small small chunks and then using aersol hairspray..not alot and keep it away from your head. Hopefully this will help!
You might find straightening your hair with hot irons easier and less time consuming then with a hairdrier. I know I do! I got my little Babyliss irons in the January sales at Boots - bargain!
