QuoteReplyTopic: clipper cut? Posted: February 25 2003 at 12:05pm
I'm a guy, with no girlfriend to bounce this off, so here goes - I have longish hair, side parted, touching the top of my ears and my collar, kinda layered throughout. I'm thinking about the clipper cuts I see every guy wearing. It looks pretty easy to take care of. I don't like the short hair with the grease on it, I mean a crew cut/ clippper cut look.Mysister says go for it, but she is not really a good barometer ( shes 22, I'm 17 ) Any thoughts? I am overweight, not horrendously but I am 5'8 and 210 pounds. Thanks.

Hi Josh! If you like it, then go for it! Super-short hair will be easier to take care of, altho I think that you'll probably have to use some sort of product in it (a little gel or something), since hair that short will probably want to stick straight up on its own (My brother has that kind of haircut and his looks crazy without a little gel in it). Unless, of course, you go with a super-super-short, military kind of cut, which pretty much takes care of itself (but, at least in my opinion, looks kinda wierd unless you are actually in the military). If you want a change but you're not sure if you want it that short, have you thought of going for something in between first? That way, you'll get a feel for shorter hair without such a big commitment. If you like it, you can always cut it again. Hope I could help & good luck! Let us know how it goes, OK?
Lotsa Love, Inga

Thanks, Ingrid, for responding. I thoughtabout going sorta shorter, but Idid that a fewyears ago, going to the top of my ear, but it just looked kinda messy on top and, well, more like the person cut it too short, badly, rather than a real precision look. I went to barber shop yesterday, a real barber shop, with a guy barber, and asked for a clipper cut, longer on top, but as he put on the cloth,Itold him I left my wallet in the car and I got up and left. I guess I need more encouragement. You note helped.

When I was younger, I also wanted a short clipper cut. When I was in high school, the shortest I cut it was about an inch and a half long...a couple of years ago I finally got a #2 buzz all over, and wondered WHY I didn't do it years earlier. It's different for guys, also shaved, or almost shaved heads are very accepted. Hair grows fast, in 3 to 4 weeks you have more coverage. If you are really worried, get your cut at the beginning of summer! Go ahead and get it cut, you will wonder why you waited so long! Good luck.
Josh - I agree with the others that say "go for it" but from what you described, you are planning on losing quite a bit of hair. A suggestion, when you tell the barber/stylist what you want, explain that you want a clipper cut on the back and sides and have the top short and blend it in with the clippered part. Have him/her set the clippers at the longest setting (usually #6 = 3/4 of an inch) and then if you want to go shorter on the back and sides you can. Good luck.
