I read in a magazine that the beer thing makes your hair soft but then as soon as you put any products in it the effect completely goes away. I don't know much about putting mayo in hair but it doesn't sound too tempting. If you're looking for a natural remedy I would use jojobo oil because that's closest to the oils that your scalp normally produces.

Hi. A few monthes ago after a really bad perm I was desperate and tried the old mayonaise trick. I was scared because of all the horror stories but I did a lot of research first and this is what I did. First make sure it's REAL mayo. LITE Mayo isn't the same either. Then I washed my hair and squeezed the excess water out and applied a good amount of the mayo on my hair. I put a shower cap on and put the blow dryer on the hottest setting all over for about 10-15 minutes then I let my hair cool off for a few minutes and rinsed my hair in COOL water for a long time. I then shampooed again, conditioned like usual, and rinsed and I was good to go. My hair was actually really soft and not at all greasy. It kind of stunk but I think it was well worth it. Matter of fact typing this makes me really wanna do it!
i tried the mayo thing... it really works. i just put it on the ends of my hair (wet of course) and let it sit for 20 min, then wash it and shampoo. it smells really bad but it makes it super soft
