Puffy / Mushroomy Hair -- How To Get It To Stay Down?

I have hair that covers the top of my ears. It looks awesome right after a shower. It stays down, and isn't puffy at all. But after it dries, it becomes really, really puffy; like a mushroom. It's crazy. How do I get it to stay down? What's this talk about grease and layering? Grease sounds absolutely disgusting to put in hair. What exactly is layering? Would that help me?

I used to kinda like scrub a light gel in it, but then I died my hair black and when someone would mess up my hair you could see those gel flakes really easily.....ew.

use a ceramic flat iron after hair is blow dryed it will look awesome
Long with BLUNT bangs or ALL cut to lip length, I cant decide my favorite!

What type of effect will a Ceramic Flat Iron provide? I'm also a bit worried about it damaging my hair.

i got the same problem man :/ .. i just ended up cutting my hair and now im tryin to get it all curley :\ cos the puffing just took over :\
