I have had a very good experience with Formula 37 (sold on this site). The amount of growth and the condition of the hair after taking it for just a month was amazing. It comes with a 45 day guarantee so you really can`t lose giving it a try. I haven`t personally tried them, but I hear people also get very good results with Nature`s Bounty Vitamins for Hair (sold at Wal-Mart). Hope this helps and good luck!! Hang in there growing your hair out.

Since hair is protein, a diet that is too low in protein may cause a thinning of the hair or a retardation in the growth cycle. The opposite is also true, if you eat a protein-rich diet it will often result in improved hair growth. Some studies suggest the dietary utilization of brewer`s yeast, wheat germ and a daily dose of two tablespoons of granulated lecithin to maximize hair growth, strength and beauty. Other good food sources for protein include fish, eggs, beans and yogurt. Soy protein has also been found to be helpful in stimulating hair growth. One study of the results of soy on the hair found that it not only strengthened the hair but caused it to grow. A great source of soy is tofu. Excessive stress and some medications are conclusively known to retard hair growth. If you have a medical condition and your physician has prescribed medications you should follow your doctor`s orders regardless of the impact to your hair. Do not undertake any new type of vitamin or mineral program until you make sure it does not interfere with any medical treatment you may currently be on. If you are under severe stress it is helpful to reduce the stress as much as possible. Cut back on any major stress in your life and your hair will love you for it. Another secret hair helper is rest and sleep. It has been discovered that to grow faster, hair needs an adequate amount of sleep (7-9 hours are suggested). Eat right, exercise, reduce stress, rest, gets lots of sleep and you are well on your way to maximizing your hair growth potential. Good luck and I hope you get your long hair back as soon as possible!

I checked another book I have about hair and found these tips for growing hair: 1) Eliminate or cut back on smoking, caffeine and fizzy drinks which weaken the body and block maximum growth. 2) Eat a healthy diet, avoid foods that are high in sugar or fat. 3) Treat your hair carefully and avoid any unnecessary brushing, combing or handling. 4) Avoid the use of hot water, hot blow dryers and other hair care tools that may stress the hair. 5) Have a weekly scalp massage to provide stimulation to the hair follicles. 6) Have regular trims to eliminate split ends and allow the hair to look and feel healthier. 7) Believe it or not, the water you use to wash your hair can cause damage if it is too chlorinated. After you wash your hair, just rinse with mineral water, it will make a big difference to the split ends. You have a lot of things to try now. Let us know if you try any of them and which ones worked for you. Happy growing!!!!

Believe it or not the thing that works the best (almost without fail!) is taking "Prenatal Vitamins"! Ever notice how prenant women`s hair always seems to look so healthy and grow so quickly? Well, I started taking the Prenatal Vitamins, though not pregnant, mainly because I felt that if it had all a woman`s body needs WHILE she`s pregnant, well, then, it should also be healthy and good for the body even while not pregnant. Within a month I noticed how quickly my hair had grown, where before it always seemed to get sholder length and just stop. Now it is just above my waist and healthy as can be! Try it! I would be you see quick results - and the vitamins are not only harmless, but healthy!!!

This may sound discusting, but do people get constipated from prenatal vitamins because or all of the iron in them? Just wondering because I would like to try them too, but I dont want any bad side effects.

Yes, Iron can sometimes constipate. However, I have never had that problem either when taking them while pregnant or not pregnant. I guess it would depend upon your bodys ability to absorb and/or digest it. I do know of some who became constipated, only to find that their OB/GYN not only prescribed the Prenatal Vitamin, but an Iron Supplement as well. Sheesh! Your average Prenatal Vitamin has 150% of your "daily supply of iron". Some Anemics also tend to have bowel problems while taking Iron -even tho they need it more than most! So I guess it would truly depend upon your own bodys "constitution". Do you normally take vitamins or a Daily Vitamin Supplement? If so it would be pretty much the same concept. Also, if you do, you want to make sure you stop taking those other vitamins once you start taking the Prenatal or you would surely be giving yourself a DOSE of good health. If it makes you feel better about taking them, I can say that both my OB/GYN and my General Practioner MD agree that it`s a great way to get ones daily vitamins.... the only difference is that Prenatal Vitamins are (naturally) geared toward pregnant women and therefore carry a bit higher daily dosage than the average vitamin supplement, not to mention that it also carries a few extras that a lot of other "Daily Supplements" don`t have in them.

Ya gotta figure, if it`s safe and healthy for a pregnant woman..... it`s gotta be good for you too! (I mean it`s not like it carries any special "hormone" drugs or anything.... just plain old vega meeta vitamins.... as Lucy Ricardo would say!)

Sure prenatal vitamins are good for pregnant women but don`t be fool in thinking that they are good for you. Those vitamins are designed because the bady takes so much out of their mother`s body so the mother need more to keep herself healthy and the bady. To take those vitamins you would be poisoning your boby by an overdose. We are often warned not to do this.
Why don`t you guys take the advice of Karen Marie who says to just take some good vitamins and I believe she meantioned the brand she was taking. Hey take a look at her web site that woman knows what she is talking about. Why not hair vitamins? I take those and they are balanced and safe. No need to overdose ourselves.

Hello Diane, :-)

Thank you so much for the compliment! I just happened to pop over to read a few posts when I saw this, so I appreciate your kindness. What a fun surprise!

I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding the vitamins.
If she were trying to grow a baby, by all means let`s bring on the prenatals, but when it comes to hair, yes, hair vitamins are definitely in order.

Hair vitamins contain essentials with hair in mind such as Biotin, MSM and more.

You are very right about a good vitamin. I have been taking a One-A-Day for general health and it has really made a difference for me. Then I added the hair vitamin and am very pleased. The result of these new vitamins to my system has made me thirsty, which is a very positive side effect, because I have found the need to drink water, something I should do anyways.

I find your posts to be very interesting and do hope to chat with you again.

Sincerely yours,
Karen Marie

Hi Vicky,

You said,

"the vitamins are not only harmless, but healthy!!!"

Please, please that is not true at all!! Overdoses can cause many health problems and believe it or not, people have actually died from overdoses. If a little is good, a lot is not necessarily better at all!

There`s something a lot stronger than prenatal vitamins working on a pregnant woman`s hair -- hormones! Sorry, at the present, you cannot buy those in a bottle.... Also, a few months after pregnancy, a woman often experiences a temporary loss of hair, due to the loss of that hormone.

Please be very careful of taking iron. For someone who is iron deficiency, obviously he needs iron. But excess iron can also interfere with calcium absorportion and also causes a lot of other problems -- I want to say liver problems, but I cannot remember at the moment which organs are affected.

The point is that I would not recommend taking any vitamin in excess without a health professional`s knowledge and/or consent. Vitamins and minerals are not harmless when consumed in excess amounts. The problem is that what is excess for one person may be just fine for another person.

Be careful!!

Jennifer
