Hi qtpatootie2b,

I work with clay, and recently I was graced by the presence of a famous ceramicist. As she used a wooden bar to pound a rolled slab into a persimmon shape, she told us something so SO important: "Clay is very forgiving". Lately I find that to be true with many things--luckily including hair. I was a trichotillomaniac/hair puller for years and years, especially during high school. Recently I stopped pulling thanks to a lot of willpower and some new things to do with my hands. Now I am pull-free. Where I used to pull, the strands tended to be kinky like Afro hair or wavy and crimped. Through time, my frizzies decreased. When I looked at the newer hairs, only the ends were frizzy. Today a lot more hairs are straight then before.

Hair ALWAYS grows back unless you completely destroy the follicle in some way. Cutting hair does not slow down NOR speed up growth, because growth happens at the scalp, inside the hair's root. All hairs will grow until they reach a "terminal length" or the length at which it naturally sheds. This "terminal length" is usually at mid thigh for most hairs. some exceptions will be hair at the hairline or at the nape of the neck.

As long as you don't stress about it (stress slows down hair growth) your hair will grow -- but it might take awhile for the hairs to grow straight again though, just like my ex-pulled hairs took awhile.

Just remember that like clay, hair is very forgiving. Here's a ((((hug)))) for you.
