Where do you work that your boss has the right to tell you how to cut your hair?!!!! He/She can not fire you; I'd think you would have a hefty law-suit...Keep your hair and if it is a cleanliness matter, keep it pinned up out of your way. If it is a fashion/trendiness matter, there are plenty of trendy ways to wear long hair...Don't cut it unless YOU want to...Da Augs

Why does your boss want you to cut your hair? Does his/her request have anything to do with the job that you hold, or is it just a personal preference? Is your boss merely making a request, or is he/she treatening to fire you if you do not comply? Unless there is a good reason why you are requested or required to have short hair in order to properly do your job, then I agree with Auggie, that you should not submit to the request. But then again, that is easy for me to say since I am not in your shoes, and you have indicated that you "need this job". Best of luck to you.Jimmy S.

This sounds a bit rediculous. As long as you come to work presentable, your hair is clean why should your boss care. He sounds like a some weirdo who is trying to replace perhaps a previous associate or lover or something. I hope you take a strong stand against this man and don't allow him to take avantage of you. You have rights and should if necessary contact the eeo, equial opportunity organization in your area, or file harrassment charges. You have to use common sense of course and don't loose your job, talk to this man w/ a witness present, and ask him why he is expressing an interest in your hair's appearance. I wish you luck. Let this man know he may be your boss but he has no right to suggest how you style your hair and he can not threaten your career in the process.> I AM A 23 YR OLD WOMAN WITH MID BACK LENGTH> HAIR. HE SAYS IT WILL ALSO SAVE ME A LOT> OF TROUBLE EVERY MORNING AND WILL BE EASIER TO> TAKE CARE OFF. HE HAS GIVEN ME A WEEK TO DECIDE.I kinda think this is a troll... but I'll answer anyways because it can't hurt.Your boss has no legal right to ask you to cut your hair. It's none of his business what trouble you go to in the morning to fix it... as long as you're at work on time. (And incidentally fiddling with shorter hair can be a lot more difficult and time consuming than putting long hair up into a clean simple bun.) Quite frankly how you wear your hair is none of his business as long as it's presentable and doesn't pose a hazard in your work environment.I'm not sure what you mean by "HE HAS GIVEN ME A WEEK TO DECIDE"... once again sounds like trolling to me. But if you're actually for real and your boss really IS threatening to fire you I suggest you contact your state labor board and (if you're a member of a union) your union representative.-jj

>Jennifer, Im with you I think we are all being a little bit trolled on this situation. If it is really happening, I dont think any woman, short or long hair, should be told she has to adjust her hair style to fit the bosses needs. If health standards have be upheld, there are hair nets. Heck, even in the Army, which I am a member of, we dont force women to cut their hair. Silvia, if you dont want to cut your hair, I would quit my job or file a complaint on the boss. Jennifer, it doesnt take Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out.Sarge

I DO NOT WANT TO BUT I NEED THIS JOB.> WHAT SHALL I DO?I am a lawyer who likes all women to wear their hair long. And in fact, I really like a woman who wears her hair in a bun. I would be very happy to prosecute a law suit on your behalf on a contingent basis. You may Email me at NCorpinc@aol.com or call me at 714-564-1150, ask for David. Your boss is reprehensible! This is sexual harassment, nothing more. You should sue the bastard!!!DAVID, Esquire
