Hi Ross...I would email you all my tips about curly hair...except I did not notice your email address. There is actually a great site on the web that specializes in curley hair. The site is located at: http://www.ouidad.com.There is a page on this site that lists all the magazines where articles by Ouidad have appeared. Several of the articles give detailed information on dealing with curly hair.Ouidad recommends that you bypass shorter cuts for longer cuts to give weight to your hair and hold the curls down. Also she recommends NOT using silicones or pomades to slick the curls down, since it prevents your hair from breathing and will cause the hair to break or become brittle. There are tools that you can buy to straighten your hair. Mariah Carey does it. However, Ouidad cautions against either chemical straightening or using a straightening tool. The reason is that either version will damage your hair. It seems that Ouidad believes that curly hair is more fragile that most people know. She recommends strengthening the hair with protein hair products (she has a special line) and gentle care.I hope that helps a little bit anyway.Good luck.Karen
