I made the decision, at my hubby's nudging, to grow my hair a little longer. If I can take care of it longer, I may even try to let it grow until it drives me nuts.Meanwhile, I have also decided to grow out my bangs. Well now they are to the tip of my nose and driving me totally nuts. Can anyone please give me some suggestions on what to do with this hair in my eyes, nose and face?Help!ThanxJanet

Try using a headband.. I use to use one and puff the front up a bit. They always worked well with me when I was growing mine out. I have since cut them again.. good luck.. Can anyone please> give me some suggestions on what to do with this> hair in my eyes, nose and face?I know just what you're going through! I also recently made the decision to grow out my bangs. Mine are not quite as long as yours, but I know the problems you're having. Lately I've been using 3 little metal barrettes to pin them back, the curved sort that lie right against the head and snap open and shut (sometimes they are called sleepies, because they don't poke you if you sleep with them in, in theory - I haven't tried it). However, I've been a little worried about breakage, so now that my bangs seem long enough for it, I have invested in some stretchy cloth headbands. It's funny, actually - I just got home from buying them. I was out with my husband to get a few other things, and the girl at the register was holding her bangs back with a headband. I said, "Look! That's exactly what I need for these annoying bangs!" So we went back and found me a few headbands too. That's probably my best suggestion for what to do with your bangs. Also, if you put a headband in right after you wash your hair and leave it in until your hair is dry, your bangs may be willing to stay back more or less on their own, or with just a set of combs or something. (I can't wait until mine get long enough to be held back with a pair of nice combs! Right now, they're too short.)Good luck!Laura Jane lswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

Wow, I can relate. My bangs are now to the tip of my nose. I have grown out my bangs several times now and thisis the first time it's not driving me crazy. Your first step is to a hair accessory department or store. Walmart is great because the stuff is cheap. I have bought the flat clasp barettes (I think goody sells 12 silver ones for about $2) and other little kid barettes (the ones with the springs in them). These are perfect for holding back just bangs. I part my bangs way over on one side and clasp the bangs over on the other. The rest of the hair behind I just comb straight back. It's sort of like Gweneth Paltrow when she was growing out her bangs. The other life savers are the stretchie cloth hair bands. I have several colors. I wear these in two styles. One way is to put the hair band on to hold back your bangs and then pull through hair on the sides and in the back. Very romantic like any Jane Austen movie. The second is the "I hate my hair day" style. Put the hair band around your neck. Secure the rest of your hair in a ponytail or top knot (jojoba oil is great to tame the fly aways and conditions at the same time) and then pull the hair band on to keep your bangs from flying forward and keep everything neat. This was popular about two years ago in the fashion shows. If you are into sports or hiking try wrapping a bandana (do-rag style) around your head. Fold the bandana into a triangle. Put the long side along your forehead and tie the two ends in the back over the tip of the end of the triangle. I ran a half marathon with a bandana tied like this and my hair stayed put. This is also less damaging than a baseball hat. I always pick the longest line in the grocery stores and flip through the magazines while I am waiting. This is a great way to get new ideas.Happy growing!

Everyone else has had some good suggestions, here's a few more. Tiny barrettes or jeweled bobby pins right at your temples can be cute. Also I've seen a few people take those REALLY tiny claw clips and clip three or four of them along the side of their head holding the bangs back with some of the rest of the hair. Good luck and remember... pretty soon they'll be grown out and you won't have to worry so much about them.-jj

Well, everybody's seemed to cover the "fastening" option pretty well, so I'll offer a couple of ideas that don't involve fastening your bangs. One thought is curling your bangs to make them "shorter" and get them out of your eyes. You can go with a little curl, and use the curl to help keep them off to the side, or go curlier and wear them on your forehead. Another option is to wear your bangs "poofy", using a little teasing to fluff them out and shorten them. One way of going about it is to curl them under, using a curling iron, and then tease them out to some degree, and style from there. The resulting fluffiness should leave them short enough to leave them out of your eyes. I like the look myself. Experiment! (And, stay away from scissors!)yoxo> I made the decision, at my hubby's nudging,> to grow my hair a little longer. Thank you Kira. Tonight I tried the bandana trick and it worked really great! Now I am totally inspired. The ideas for material to use is flooding into my brain. Silk scarves and cotton and etc etc.I never even considered this before. Thanks for taking the time for all the explanations. I think I am saved. :-)Janet> Wow, I can relate. Hi to everyone who has helped me SO much with my bangs. I have tried everyone's suggestions and they all helped a lot. I liked the headband idea and the little barrettes and Laura Jane's stretchy headband and Kira's bandana and yoxo's curling suggestions.I am feeling so much better about my hair that I have been experiementing with the rest of it too.Thank you all for taking the time to help me.Janet (Happily growing her bangs to new lengths)> Well, everybody's seemed to cover the "fastening"> option pretty well, so I'll offer a couple of> ideas that don't involve fastening your bangs.> One thought is curling your bangs to make them> "shorter" and get them out of your eyes.> You can go with a little curl, and use the curl> to help keep them off to the side, or go curlier> and wear them on your forehead.
