I started out three years ago with waist length hair. Because my sides were cut up over my ears (not intentional - my hair was short when I started having it cut - I wanted the back to grow long enough for a pony tail and ended up with long hair) My stylist talked me into cutting my hair up to the middle of my back and letting the sides grow. As the sides grew out she wanted to cut it even shorter so that the different layers weren't so drastic. I agreed to that! Because I have thick, straight hair it was then suggested that I get a perm (for body - spiral). I was already having highlights put in and through time I became a blond (it was supposed to be the crown and around my face). In all fairness the stylist I have now wasn't responsible for the color or condition of my hair. I went in and requested a hairstyle I saw in a magazine (even shorter because I need something professional that can be casual or that I can glamour up a bit). She didn't think it would like right because I am a little overweight. I supposedly have an oval face!? but it would not look good because I have a thick chin. I also insisted I go back to my natural color because the foil was turning me blond (too heavy?) Well she cut my hair again, it is now exactly shoulder length with slight layering. I still do NOT have a style - my hair is darker than my natural color (she said it would fade) - My hair is dry from so many chemicals and the shortest layer hangs below my chin. I keep it back with head bands or barrets (This just isn't appropriate for my place of work). My problem is that I am in Germany. I am not going back to the United States for another 9-10 months. I need help. I need someone with enough knowledge and experience to know what kind of hairstyle would suit my face and to be able to cut it correctly. Would anyone out there know of some place or someone overseas that could help? Or someone that could help me pick a hairstyle using a scanned photo? I think I can find a stylist to cut it.

Hi,I am sorry to see that you are having so many problems with your hair.I have to tell you that I don't know anyone in Germany at this point. I will try and research this a little and see if I can find someone. What part of Germany are you in?Also, as far as the color, yes it will fade. Because of all the chemicals processing you have had done, I would recommend that you try to live with your hair for at least the next month and focus on getting it conditioned so that you can recover from the dryness. I am not sure what products you have access to, but I would strongly recommend a heavy duty conditioner like Aveda's Curessence and I would recommend that you do what Cher does and leave it on your hair for more than just a few minutes.I would also recommend waiting to see how the color fades so that you can keep that in mind as you look for a new style.Have you looked at out Gallery? There are over 400 photos in there and many of women with chin lenght styles.Do you have bangs right now? Bangs can work wonders with creating a professional look. Your hair may be a little too short to wear pulled back, but you can use a setting gel like Aveda Confixer and gel the sides back so that you don't have to use barrettes. Especially if the sides are layered, you can wear them combed back off your face.Have you tried this?Another option for finding a good stylist is to ask women with hair similar to your length and style that you see where they get their hair done. Most people are flattered by the compliment. This may help you. What about the American embassy? Have you considered calling them and asking for recommendations?Best wishesKaren> I started out three years ago with waist> length hair.
