Hi,Well it never fails. I see a post from someone with a question I can't answer and then what seems like days later, I find an answer. I decided to go ahead and post this even though it may be to late for the young lady who originally posted the question.I discovered in Stephanie Seymour's book that "the word shampoo is derived from the Hindu word champo which means "to massage" or "to kned" reflecting the physical action that you use on the head. The first modern commercial shampoos were created in the 1930s by John Breck, whose obseeion with his own thinning hair led him to formulate what would become the first mass-market hair care products in the world. However even in ancient Greece both men and women would powder their hair with pollen and gold dust to achieve a "blonde" effect and in many ancient times men and women washed their hair with various concoctions.Sorry this is late.Best to everyone.Karen
