I have the worlds most annoying hair in the world! Ive pretty much had long, straight, flat hair my whole life because thats the only way it will let me have it!! Lately Ive wanted to cut my hair and give it a body perm. The problem is I permed it once before and it burnt my hair so bad I had to cut it off... Having straight, short hair makes my face really chubby so I dont want that to happen again. When I got that perm I was only about 10 years old. Im 17 now and I was wondering if it might not have the same effect as before? I would wear curlers but the curls only last for about an hour and are gone, even if I soak my hair in hairspray, gel, or mousse. Also if you have strawberry blond hair and a cut that is about shoulder length with a slight curl please send me a pic if possible. I also have a bad problem with my hair breaking and split ends. I have split ends sticking out from all over my head!! What can I do to help make my hair stronger? Thanks everyone : )

I too have fine, straight hair that doesn't do anything I want. I am 35 and have been dealing with frustrating hair since I was a teenager also. It's very hard to accept your hair a certain way when you know it's not the way you would like. I'm sure if you had a professional body perm, it probably would not come out as disasterous, but I would be concerned about the split ends you have to begin with. You will only create more damage. Over the years, I've tried just about everything in the world to make my hair fluffy and less limp. I find that steam rollers or Velcro rollers hold curl 10 times better than any hot roller I've ever used. You just have to get used to using them. Also, I've had to resign myself to the fact that I just simply can't wear my hair certain ways because it's too much of a fight. To get more lift, I will lightly tease my hair on the top and use spray, then use a "lift" (pronged comb) to hold my hair while I spray it. I like curl, but not alot of it, so I use Velcro on my dry hair & then apply a dryer to the rollers. Then cool & take them out. Obvious things too are to use products designed for your hair. Mine does horrible with gels, but mousse works best. Just bear in mind that the more products you use, the more they'll weigh down your hair. Bottom line here is probably to find a good stylist to trim your hair & try not to grow it too long or it'll get stringy. I know this is long! Hope this helps..from one who knows exactly where you're coming from. ~Kelly F.

Jennifer: My sister and a good friend of mine are in the same boat as you are, and they both wear their hair in a chin-length pageboy with bangs. At one time, my sister got her hair cut quite short and permed (loose curls) which looked very nice. If you leave your fine hair too long, it can be flyaway-looking with a perm. She's also a strawberry blonde, so you may have similar hair types. My suggestion to you is to talk with a reputable stylist and get his/her honest opinion about how you can successfully wear your hair and then go for it! Remember, perms grow out, require maintenance, and can be costly. Depending on your budget, you might be better off with a good, low maintenance, flattering cut. Good luck to you! >I like what Kelly had to say about steam rollers. I have very fine straight hair too. The curl seems to stay in longer with the steam rollers.
