QuoteReplyTopic: My take on some Phyto products Posted: January 12 2000 at 3:39am
I was all excited because I went to go get some products from this line at Nordstrom's yesterday, but when I got home last night, I *had* to wash my hair and try it out. I got the Phytocadamiashampoo(because the SA said she preferred it to the Phytojoba) and the Phyto 7, and both of thesedid absolutely nothing for my hair except to accentuate the dryness. The Phyto 7 does absolutelynothing for dry hair, and I feel would be much better suited for those with basically normal hair. Ithought maybe I should've gotten the Phyto 9, but I don't see how two more plant extracts are goingto do any good! The SA assured me that I could return whatever I didn't like(I got the volumizingmousse too, which also did nothing), so it's going back. Now I'm just wondering if I should even trythe Phytojoba and Phyto 9. Also, I noticed that most of the shampoos have a pH of 6.5-7.0, andI've always heard that people that color their hair should use a shampoo with a acidic pH(3-4),anyone else hear this?I'm just bummed because I really thought this stuff was going to be great! Did I just get the wrongproducts? The Phytocadamia is for extra dry hair and it did nothing to moisturize my hair, so will thePhytojoba be any better since it's just for dry hair? Damn!Any thoughts?

Hi Kara,I know that people should shampoo with a lower ph shampoo-these do sound too high of a ph..by coincidence, my husband and I were looking at these Phytology shampoos last week( I think they were the same brand and not a generic)and noticed they make a shampoo with cider/vinegar which made the shampoo stated at 3.5 or something close to that number-which I think would be proper for colored hair. Maybe you should look for this product and exchange the shampoo for that one. Let us know how it does for your hair because we were thinking of buying it for ourselves-our water has a little bit high of a ph (a little over 8)and we need lower ph shampoos. Thanks!Holly
I was thinking just the same thing, and I do know what shampoo you're talking about. Although it will be about 2 weeks until I can exchange the shampoos, I'll be sure to post about it when I do.Thanks for the input!Kara

Hi Kara,Sorry to hear about your disappointment with Phyto.I used the Phytocidre with the cider/vinegar which does indeed have a lower pH. It worked great for me.I thought at first that it would be yucky because of the vinegar, but it was really good. I also used the Phytomoelle which has all sorts of bamboo oil/bark conditioners. It smelled ok and was sort of a gold color, but it made my hair feel great. Then I followed up with the #7. I have coarse, naturally wavy, color treated for 10 years) hair and it did the trick.I think you should take everything back to the store and maybe try the Phytocidre shampoo if you are still willing to experiment. One thing to remember...sometimes it is a 4-6 shampoo process for any hair to get used to new hair care products.I noticed that the Phytologie took about 2-3 shampoos to really kick in full potential although I did notice a difference right away.Even though a product may be designed for dry hair, it may not work on YOUR dry hair. I learned that the hard way and so I am never convinced about a product till I try it on my hair.Friends of mine with similar hair just raved about Abba and it did not work for me. I wrote a review about my first set of Abba products. I got lots of email from people telling me that I had not tried the "right" Abba. So I went back to the store and bought the entire Abba line. I tried all of it. Nothing. So for me, Abba just does not work. I am sure it works great for others...just not me or my hair.I know it is disappointing to try a new product that has a great reputation and then not get the results. It is great that you do have the option to take it back. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I think people need to know that not everything works for everyone and that sometimes the only option is to experiment.Best wishes,KarenI also give a product at least 4 shampoos before I deem it a failure, unless after the first time my hair is so bad I can't stand it.
