My 2-year-old has very curly hair and absolutely hates having it combed or brushed. As a result, we only wash it and comb or brush it every week or two. My husband uses a fairly stiff brush, which I think is gentler, but which I'm afraid won't get out all of the tangles, so I use a comb. Which is better?
I have curly hair myself, even though i am female. Curly hair isn't always neccesarily better "tangle free". When you try and get out all the tangles, it only breaks off the hair and makes it unhealthy. There is something i learned not too long ago about curly hair. You see each strand of straight hair is round if looked at through a cross section, on the other hand curly hair in almost flat more of an oval that round. So curly hair is more easily damaged by everything. This is my suggestion to you and your son. Bye comditioner at the store. After washing putt he conditioner in his hais and let is set for a minute or two. then accually comb through his hair with you fingers, and the tangles will come out very easily. then while rinsing continue "brushing"the hair with you fingers. Then just get out of the shouwer and let it dry. That is all there is to it!!!! I hope this si helpfull information, and please get back to me if this works for you.Heidi Walker
ake it from someone who also had curly hair as a child (a still as an adult)-- use a PICK! This is the most gentle way of detangling any hair, especially curly! When I was little I hated my mother brushihng my hair, so when i was in the 2nd grade, i demanded that my glorious curls be hacked off! I am now 22 and have yet to get it that long again! So-- take my word, use a pick-- your child will love you for it... I wish my mom had!Sherry> My 2-year-old has very curly hair and absolutely hates> having it combed or brushed. > And also, it seems to me that there are lots of detangling sprays designed spacifically for children that could help a lot (loreal makes a cute one). When I was a kid, I had hair down to my butt and was always extremely tangled. I hated my mother trying to detangle it fought with her about it. Then she would send me to this really mean friend of hers who would take two hours to detangle it. It hurt sooo much. Now I'm twenty with butt length hair again. When it gets really tangled, I put a light oil (like neurgena body oil) in it, and gently comb it out with a wide tooth comb which goes through more easily because of the oil. Then i wash all the oil out and condition. This takes the least time and minimizes breakage. HTH
My daughter's hair is to her butt and she is 5. I like to wash her hair with J&J's No More Tangles shampoo then put a little of my conditioner in, which right now is Back to Basics Raspberry Almond. I leave that in for a few minutes, then I let a constant stream of water wash over her hair while I comb it. I have found this to be the best way, she has a lot of tangles. They come out very easy and with hardly any hassle. I even do this with my hair which is wavy/curly. Then I towel dry and spray some J&J's No More Tangles spray-on detangler and use a pick to work it through and put it up to dry naturally. Her hair is shiny and beautiful and after that tangle free. At least until the next night when we do it all over again. I tried just washing her's every other night but she is just WAY to active for that. HTHMelissa M
