QuoteReplyTopic: Cut it off? Posted: January 12 2000 at 3:44am
I have very long hair and I want for the first time to cut it short. It would be much more easy to handle.Even that I usually have my hair in a ponytail, it's a hard work to keep it nice Especially when I am sporting. But my boyfriend get mad when i tell him about my plans.Any advice what to do?

Unless you really cut it off and get a short crop, but you should have a small oval face and probably a different boyfriend!Your Friend; Jenn

Just a thought: How about trying on wigs to know ahead of time how you'll look, or one of those computer imaging softwares where you can put a photo of yourself in different hairstyles? I agree with Jenn-short hair can be harder to maintain than long hair. Ultimately, it's up to you-not your boyfriend, although I understand the need tofeel that your man is pleased with your looks. Still, your own judgement must come first. Hope this helps.Holly

Hi Maria-Looks like your post has been getting a loy of views. Last summer I chopped my loose curly hair into that cute little Darhma cut, and it really flattered my face. However, I had to DO it all the time. So, Jen's right-- unless you get a really chort "pixie" cut, you always have to do your hair-- and that is not low maintenance. Anyway, I too have been debating about weather or not to cut again-- I just felt like i looked better with it short and it really fir my personality-- I tend to be very bubbly and outgoing-- but I just remember what it was like-- and now the growing out stage is even worse! So, I really think that you should think anout it long and hard-- like my hairstylist told me, "Shhort hair is a marriage!"Sherry> I have very long hairand I want for the first time to> cut it short. 1. Your boyfriend is not the one carrying around a haevy head of hair.2. The fact that he gets mad over you cutting your hair is ridiculous and it should show you something about his maturity and how he views your relationship.3. I would cut it because you will never know if you prefer your hair short or long unless you try it.4. If you hate it it will always grow back!!!!godd luck
Think very hard before you make a decision one way or the other.1) Make the decision based on YOUR desire-- but don't do it to "spite" your boyfriend. At the same time, do consider his opinion in your decision making process. How would you feel if he changed his appearance drastically without at least considering your opinions? This doesn't mean you HAVE to listen to him-- just weigh in his opinion among your other deciding factors.2) Short hair isn't necessarily easier to care for-- trust me, I've been in both places and it's always nicer to have the potential to pull your hair in a pony tail if all else fails-- short hair has to be done-- That said, short hair definitely can make you feel spunky, hip, and hot (if it suits you).3) Hair does grow back, but it takes time-- so short hair is a commitment cause you can't get the long locks back overnight and you go through several months of awkward hair if you don't like your hair short.I would strongly suggest that you think about your options and maybe talk to a good stylist before you make your decision. Also, lose your length slowly-- a few inches at a time rather than drastically-- that way, you can decide to stop if you see that you're missing your long hair without losing more than a few months worth of growth. My .02
Maria.. take some time to put some thought into your new feelings about cutting your hair. I have had both very long hair and above shoulder length hair and lengths in between. I can tell you from experience that tho long hair requires techniques different from shorter hair.. the time taking care of it is about the same tho different. Shorter hair requires styling. Longer hair takes some knowledge of doing long hair styles. Washing takes longer and drying time but I can always frenchbraid my wet hair and off I go. When my hair is longer I can put it out of the way like it is short hair. Example: bun, frenchbraiding & twists. . I could not do this when it was above shoulderlength. When I put my hair up in a bun it gives the same freedom of short hair. Then I can take it down and have my longer hair again. You are kind of stuck in a same kind of hairstyle when it's shorter. But with longer hair you can do it in many ways. I can understand your boyfriends attitude.. my husband loves long hair too but he would not stop me if I wanted to cut it again. He would be disappointed tho. You need to make your own decision. The only thing I can tell you is that if you are sorry, you have many years of regrowing to look forward to. Go to a wig shop and try on many different types of wigs. Try learning frenchbraiding.. french twists and new styles for longer hair. Give yourself some space before making the final decision! Good luck and let us know what "you" decide.. CherylI have very long hair and I want for the first time to> cut it short.
