RE: Fly away hair

I have waist-length, wavy, thick but fine-textured (does that make sense?) hair. I use Pantene (which I'm hearing horrid things about). I work out almost every day so my hair does collect sweat, but I don't want to wash it every day, so I usually just let it dry out and wash it 2X a week (except for my bangs, which get it every day). My problem is that my hair is very fly-away, especially the bangs. My ideal would be to have a nice neat shining cap of hair. But it's not happening. I braid my hair a lot, could that contribute to it (increasing the wave when it's loose)? Any suggestions on products, ways to cut my bangs to make them lay down, etc. would be appreciated.
