Can anyone recommend a good clarifying shampoo that does not contain silicones? I know that products containing silicone can cause buildup and subsequent breakage, but I really like the shine they impart without adding weight (my hair is straight and the strands are pretty thick so my hair gets limp with creams/pomades). I want a shampoo that will remove buildup caused by shine products. I bought Aveda's hair detoxifier but did not read the label until I got home and was dismayed to see that it contained dimethicone.

Dear JJ--I am a curlyhead, so I know all about silicone build-up-- unfortunately that dreasy stuff is what keeps my frizz at bay. However, you have to get rid of the build-up somehow right? I suggest you try Neutrogena's Anti Residue Shampoo. This stuff may be a "Drug store" brand, but there is nothing else quite like it. It gets rid of my build-up and believe me, I am heavy handed with the greasy stuff. Also, for a really good stripper, although i find that it leaves my hair very dry for a day or so-- try regular Head and Shoulders for normal hair (NOT the 2 in 1,-- the original). My colorist recommended this to me when i goofed with my color and it was too dark-- it really removed most of that color-- amazing!
