I'd like to put my hair up in a big poofy bun like the one Jane Seymour wore in "Somewhere in Time" for a photo. My hair is waist length and slightly wavy. Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to do this?

The trick, as I understand it, is to pull your hair up into a high pony tail but not to tie it tightly. Then let the hair go a wee bit slack before you begin to twist it up. The idea is to have the hair not pulled tight at any time. How easy this is in practice I have no idea - I base this on what I have heard, please feedback!andyps backcombing may help?

I've tried the loose method you suggested, but my hair is a little too thin and it just kind of folds over and lays flat and droopy and not at all like I want. I'm willing to backcomb it if necessary but have never tried that before and would need some instructions on the proper way to do that so as not to damage my hair. I would imagine I would have to backcomb it a lot, which again is OK as long as I know how to undo the mess I create.

Yeah, I was worried about how to make it all stay up there!I've got a few pictures in books about how to both backcomb and how to achieve the 'loose knot' effect (though the model goes for a very loose bun it gives the right idea). I'm prepared to scan and mail them to you if you like - mail me direct on bat9405@clara.net or noctule@hotmail.com and give me your mail address if you likeandy
