QuoteReplyTopic: For Karen & anyone else...Pantene-store brands Posted: January 12 2000 at 4:05am
I have a question..I have been told on numerous occasions, that Pantene and store brands are damaging to your hair. I currently use Aveda and Artec, but after awhile, they tend to smell at first then die off. I have used these products for over ayear or so. They seem to diminish in results. I love the smell of Pantene and used it years ago. I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to these issues, however, this is one aspect (Pantene & Store Brands)I have never quite grasped. Could someone tell me what it is exactly that is so bad and if any store brands you would care to recommend?ThanksApril

April,I used Pantene about 3 years ago when I had really long hair. I loved the smell as well and it lasted all day. I have'nt heard anything about it being damaging. In fact, I got ALOT of compliments on how shiny my hair was. I think it was the healthiest when I was using Pantene everyday. And I had colored and permed hair. The reason I stopped using it, is because I either read or saw on tv, that Proctor and Gamble tested on animals. They tested it by blinding them and poisoning them. Proctor and Gamble make Pantene products. I would use their products today IF they did not test on animals. I decided then to find another product that was just as good but did not test on these poor animals. I am using Aussie. There products are great!!!! They don't have the same smell but make my hair feel and look healthy. Good Luck!!Jenn>I have a question..> I have been told on numerous occasions, that Pantene> and store brands are damaging to your hair. Hi there!First of all,you said that you love the smell of Pantene right, well have you smelled the 'new' Pantene? No lie, the cat box deoderizer that I use for my kitty smells EXACTLY the same! I already called the company. Anyway, as for Pantene, while the 'new' brand has eliminated most of the silicone in it, it STILL contains Ammonium Xylenosufate-- this is a stripper used in NAIL POLISH REMOVER-- WHY? In addition, it contains like two or three differnt detergents right at the top of the list-- one is fine, but two is an overkill! And, if you are still tempted to buy the original Pantene (if you can find much of it anymore) please recognise that when they list dimethicone or cyclomethicone as the second or third ingredient, that most of the bottle is actaully made up of that clear, greasy laminating stuff that we all complian gives us build-up if we use to much. I alsolike to suggest to you that you buy a book called "Don't Go Shopping for Haircare Products without Me" by Paula Begoun-- she really busts some myths. Oh, in addition-- if you look at many of the other store brands out there, you will probably find Sodium Lauryl Sulfatelisted as the main detergent ingredient-- this is aweful, stripping stuff so try and stay away from it:)Hope some of this helps!Sherry~> I have been told on numerous occasions, that Pantene> and store brands are damaging to your hair. Hi, my name is Jennie, I am 14 and have long, thin, naturally oily hair. I have heard many rumors about Pantene, then this report, so I stopped using it. If you have any hair tips, hair do's, do's and don'ts, email me and let me know. Thanks,Jennie
