HELP! I made a dramatic change in my hair from a below chinbob to very short crop. Think Sharon Stone. It looked really nice the day I got the cut but now I can't fix it. The beautybuzzers recommended I post here for help!
Aly,i don't know your hair type and what you are currently doing to style it, but i recommend letting it air dry without any products in it (on a day you don't have plans or work) to see what your hair does naturally with your new cut and then working from there. once you determine what it is that you do and do not like, its pretty easy to select which products to use to achieve the effect you are going for.i had a very short crop for more than 2 years (1-2 inches on top, shaved above my hair and in the back) i had a couple of basic ways to style it. i have very straight hair that would have stuck straight up in the hair (think porcupine) if i didn't put anything in it. two of my favorite ways to style it were:1- to go for a wet look, after shampooing, i combed it, applied a good amount of a strong gel and finger styled it to give it a slightly curled look. great if you don't mind crunchy hair :)2- i used a light pomade to weigh my hair down a little and finger styled when wet, this was a much softer look, but i couldn't wear it when my hair was freshly cut.one final note, if you still can't manage to style your hair to your satisfaction, i recommend a trip back to your stylist to ask her if she could tell you which products she used and what she did...good luck and enjoy your new hair,jj
Hi Aly,A very good friend of mine has the exact same haircut as you do. She uses as texturizing pomade (like KMS pomade or Molding Paste and millions of others) and just fluffs up her hair to give it increadible sepperation and texture. In the past, she has let it grow for a month or two, and then she could push the sides and bit behind her ears, for extra styling options. With a cut like yours, it is supposed to be easy-- just give yourself time to play with it. Hope this helps!Sherry~> HELP! Hi Aly,Welcome to HairTalk.I agree with everything that has been said. I just want to add one thing. As JJ said....please go back and ask the stylist to either shape up the cut or show you step by step how to recreate it. My own personal stylist gives people with a new cut a "cheat sheet" on the best products to use and she will show them how to how the blow dryer or where to apply the appropriate products.A key to a short cut is how your blow dry it and use the right brush. Some short cuts need a lot of finger picking for the texture look and some need a special brush.Call the stylist on the phone and tell them that you could use a little class in how to recreate the style.Sometimes the stylists assume that you already have the right tools or you would know how to do it at home. It happens a lot that people get home and can't work with their new hairstyle. Many many years (about 15) I had my bra length hair cut to my chin. The stylist did a soft and shiny bob and it looked good. Well when I tried to recreate it...waves everywhere. YUCK. So I went back and she taught me how to blow dry to eliminate the waves. I went home and played with and also figured out how to "scrunch" so that I had cool waves. People would even ask me how I got the "look" which was funny since it was all by accident.Good luck. Thanks for posting. Come back and let us know how you did.Best wishes,Karen Shelton> Aly,> i don't know your hair type and what you are currently> doing to style it, but i recommend letting it air dry> without any products in it (on a day you don't have> plans or work) to see what your hair does naturally> with your new cut and then working from there. once> you determine what it is that you do and do not like,> its pretty easy to select which products to use to> achieve the effect you are going for.> i had a very short crop for more than 2 years (1-2> inches on top, shaved above my hair and in the back) i> had a couple of basic ways to style it. i have very> straight hair that would have stuck straight up in the> hair (think porcupine) if i didn't put anything in it.> two of my favorite ways to style it were:> 1- to go for a wet look, after shampooing, i combed> it, applied a good amount of a strong gel and finger> styled it to give it a slightly curled look. great if> you don't mind crunchy hair :)> 2- i used a light pomade to weigh my hair down a> little and finger styled when wet, this was a much> softer look, but i couldn't wear it when my hair was> freshly cut.> one final note, if you still can't manage to style> your hair to your satisfaction, i recommend a trip> back to your stylist to ask her if she could tell you> which products she used and what she did...> good luck and enjoy your new hair,> jj
