QuoteReplyTopic: Long Hair Retro styles (20's-50's) Posted: January 12 2000 at 4:56am
I would like to know what types of styles were popular for women with longer hair (past shoulder length) for the 20's through 50's. Can anyone direct me to some books, web pages, etc? Thanks!
Hi Michelle, please go to http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/5164/ for some tips. It's called the Traditional Hairdressing page and if it's not there, then look at their links to other similar pages. Good luck!
I too am interested in the vintage styles. How you do the cool big curl thing in the front on one's head...ya know is it with curling irons, rollers, and pins. Part it down the middle and have two big curly sweeps. Make any sense, catch the visual I am sending? I recently chopped my long hair short after growing out my bitch bangs because I felt like I couldn't do anything with it. Now that my hair is growing back out and is at shoulder length (bangs are chin length, it's about time!) I want to try and be more creative giving myself the retro flare. Any suggestions would be highly appriciated as well. So glad to know I am not the only one with wanting to find such a look or create such a look without having to go to beauty school.Any secrets, web-sites, literature out there for little old me, gracLaura
Just wanted to let you know that I made some headway on discovering retro hair styles for long hair.I have been looking through 1940's magazines and have discovered that long hair is always kept up (except when the woman is looking very sexy, such as in a Hollywood film advertisement or romance novel cover). I have seen several pictures of hair that is parted in the middle and braids are twisted around in a bun-like fashion on both sides of the head! I'll keep looking, because I'd like to have more than one choice of a retro style. Thanks,Michelle
