QuoteReplyTopic: SHEA BUTTER.... how do you use it???? Posted: January 12 2000 at 5:06am
Hi there!I just bought a pound of this stuff 'cause I heard of its wonderful conditioning properties :) What I need to know is how it is to be used. Must it be melted, and if so, for how long? Does it need to be mixed with something else? How long do you leave it on your hair? Do you shampoo afterwards? Thanks in advance for your advice, it is MUCH appreciated :)Sherry
Hi, Sherry!Aren't you the lady with all those beautiful curls?I've been using shea butter for several months and will tell you what has worked best for me. For your body, you can use it straight. Just take a small amount, rest on say your leg and it will melt pretty fast from body heat. For your hair, I have found that if you want to use a bit to moisturize your hair, let it melt in your hand and spread in your hair where desired. For a hot oil treatment, I have found that a mixture of 2/3 jojoba oil + 1/3 shea butter is wonderful. Here, I warm the jojoba oil and drop the shea butter into the mixture to melt. However long you want to leave the mixture in your hair is up to you. I've left it in overnight. Usually, however, 30minutes does a great job for general monthly maintenance. After the treatment, of course, shampoo as usual.Hope this helps...Jade21> I just bought a pound of this stuff 'cause I heard of> its wonderful conditioning properties :) What I need> to know is how it is to be used. Hi Jade!Yes, I am the girl with the curls :) Thank you very much for the Shea Butter advice. Now, all I need is to aquire some Jajoba oil (which I heard is great for frizzies anyway). I will let you know how it all goes, thanks again :)Warmest regards,Sherry> Hi, Sherry!> Aren't you the lady with all those beautiful curls?> I've been using shea butter for several months and> will tell you what has worked best for me.
