I'm sure you all have seen the latest trend in young mens hair. It is quite common among the soap opera/tv stars, shorter all around and a little longer in the bangs area, just long enough to kinda make stand up and look a little messy. Well, my question for you all is how to achieve "the look" my barber does a nice job, but it lacks the "un-buzzed" look that the TV guys have. My hair is currently 1 inch +/- all around the top area, nearing 1.5-2 inches at the bangs/front and is clipper cut to the point it almost looks like a fade along the sides and back. What are we (barber and I) doing wrong? Is there a certain set of instructions that should be followed when trying to get this look???? If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it! Maybe I'll have to go to a supercuts/salon place to get the cut....anyhow, Thanks in advance!A responce via e-mail would be great too if you could forward it! Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks!~Mike

>Personally, with no offense to you intended, I find the style you described as kind of trendy, retro, unappealing and juvenile. It's your hair to do as want but I'd seriously consider a longer, more classic and versatile style.I'm sure you all have seen the latest trend in young> mens hair. > Hi Mike,Yes, I know the style you're referring to. I'm no hair stylist, but I know what it takes to get my own short hair to stand up. I have a Bed Head 'do, and the way it's cut makes all the difference. And of course you know you have to use the gel and all...But here's the secret--when you get your hair cut, you know how the stylist will hold up one section at a time to cut? Well, tell him/her NOT to cut it straight across. Have them put the scissors vertical to the hair and CUT NOTCHES DOWN into it. What you want is a fringed look. It's the fringes that make it stand up.Give that a try and let me know how it works out for you.Good luck!Jane Bullock

In no direspect to you either, but yeah I've done the longer "classic" look for ages now, sure it was nice looking and very clean cut but it got boring, I've got completely straight hair and well although it did have a flowing look to it, it was BORING......just decided it was a change, thats all. I mean this way it can be worn a number of different ways, sleeked forward, parted, combed, brushed, natural, or even that kind of bed-head look thats going about right now....Well, thanks anyhow for your insight...

> You're right about the variety. I actually interviewed this 30 something guy today with a head full of dark reddish real straight, but dense hair worn about a half inch in length all around, except on the very top and front where it must have been a full 1 inch or 1 and 1/2 inches so the hair laid flat and thick. He had a shortish but full beard as well and I kept thinking he's got one good stylist. Maybe with a beard it would look good, what do you think? In no direspect to you either, but yeah I've done the> longer "classic" look for ages now, sure it> was nice looking and very clean cut but it got boring,> I've got completely straight hair and well although it> did have a flowing look to it, it was BORING......just> decided it was a change, thats all. Frankly I'd imagine the beard thing would be good, but only if well groomed and managed. I'm not into the whole facial hair thing myself so I steer clear of it, but I don't discourage others from it...

I agree. The shorter the hairstyle the shorter the beard. Although, I guess we're in the minority. Lately I have seen a lot of bald or shaved heads with big, bushy beards lately. Is that what they call high and tight? Anyway post a picture once you get it right, will you?> Frankly I'd imagine the beard thing would be good, but> only if well groomed and managed.
