QuoteReplyTopic: NEED HELP WITH HAIR LIGHETENING!! HAIRDRESSER@S OR ANYONE, PLEASE HELP!! Posted: January 12 2000 at 5:18am
Hi,I have natural strawberry blonde hair that I want to lighten, but I have a question.I first used Clairol's "ULTIMATE BLONDE" in maximun Golden Blonde. I loved the color, but I had to use it twice to get the desired lightness to my hair. I will be careful to only do the roots from here on in, but here is my question:Is it healthier for my hair to keep using the "Ultimate Blonde" that is only a high lift tint, EVEN THOUGH I have to go over the hair again after shampooing it out the first time and allowing to be conditioned first before I go over it again when dry with the same product,OR-should I just go the next step up, to the "BORN BLONDE" hair lightner, which is bleach. I've used this before and get nice results, too. I just don't have to go over my hair again, like with the "Ultimate Blonde".I just thought that since the "Ultimate Blonde" is not really a bleach per se, it would be healthier to use that product, even though I have to use it twice. I use the most moisturizing shampoos and conditioners and deep condition regularly. I want to take the best possible care of my hair. PLEASE HELP! I need to know before Monday at the latest!Thank you in advance,Happyblonde
i have heard some horrible things about that lightener, i would trust an over the counter product like that. as for the color you are using now, if its not broke, no need to fix it right? just a reminder--the bold blonde look isnt as popular as it used to be, the in look now is becoming more natural with subtle blonde streaks, so you might want to consider that. anyone can have blonde hair but not everyone can have strawberry blonde hair!

I use Redken products only, but I hesitate to advise to use any bleach product at home period! If you have satisfactory results now with the hi-lift product and no abnormal breakage, I would lean toward this product probably. If this is the first time that you are going to 'redo' your new growth area, you should get someone that 'cares' to help you apply the product to only the new growth and to not overlap onto the previously colored hair.Use two coloring 'bowls' one with a heavy bodied conditioner in it and the other with the hi-lift color in it. Section the hair into small sections about 1/2 inch in width and smaller if very thick/long and apply the color with a tint brush from the bowl, return the 'tint brush' to the 'tint' bowl and apply the conditioner to the already colored hair to protect it from accepting color while stil holding the hair straight out from the scalp. Be sure to work carefully and not get mixed up about which product goes where and watch the timing, if you and your helper is slow, no problem, after it has developed properly rinse a section and dry, then do another section, just work steadily and you can move right along. good luck william
