I am thinking about getting my hair cut. I was thinking of having the sides cut short just below the ear. I was going to leave the back grow long. I never seen anybody with a cut like this. Does anybody know if that will look right? I wish I had a picture to see what it looks like. Thanks for any help.

Isn't that kind of cut a "mullet cut"? There is a website devoted to that style.
