I am Asian with fine, black hair and desire a golden brown color. I do realize this is high maintenance but I really like the brown look and have been getting my hair highlighted for the past 4 years. Here's my current situation: My hair was professionally colored 4 months ago and instead of getting golden brown as the result, the color is a reddish brown. I went back after 7 weeks and told my stylist that I wanted to get rid of the rid tint, so he put partial highlights on the front of my hair. The color looked okay but the red undertones were still very apparent. I am now at the 7 week mark again and am going to try a different stylist. I told the new stylist I wanted my hair golden brown with some lighter locks in front. Her two recommendations based on my hair already being processed once: 1) Bleach the entire head, add a caramel brown toner to the hair, and add some highlights to the front, or 2) Add heavy highlights all over and then add a toner on top of it.Can you please tell me which of these two suggestions would achieve the golden brown color? If neither, what do you think is the best solution? Thanks so much!

If in the professional judgement of the stylist your hair is in fact sound enough to be lightened and toned, I would use an 'oil type' on the scalp type of bleach and lighten to the desired level and then tone as desired,(probably with multicolored shades) to give a more natural textured color rather than a monotone solid appearing color.william

I am also asian and my hair was dark brown about 7 years ago. I decided to color it because like you I wanted a golden brown color. As of today my hair is golden brown/blonde. The first step I did was I colored my hair with a dark blonde permanent haircolor. Since my hair was dark it changed only to a dark brown/reddish color. Put it this way the more you color your hair (with a blonde Permanent hair dye) the faster you will achieve your goal. Remember it does take awhile. I have been coloring my hair for along time now and its a beautiful light brown. Hope this works for you. I have pictures on the web if you are interested in seeing. Lisa
