I have purchased Aveda's Madder Root shampoo and conditioner after I read the article on the Hair Boutique archives. I must say that I am very pleased about how silky my hair is after using it...however, I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I have not noticed any color deposit on my hair. My hair is a natural dark brown but I have lighter brown highlights around the face. From what I've read the product is supposed to work in dark brown hair, but I have used several times in a row and not noticed any change. How much conditioner should I put on? Maybe I am not leaving it on for long enough? I usually put in for about 5 minutes. Any suggestions will be appreciatedSandra
i used it for quite a while and got a red glowing aura. i would leave the conditioner on a long time: 5 minutes minimum, and sometimes 15-30 minutes. You may want to try this and see if it improves the effect. Also, do you have "virgin" hair? I have previously colored my hair, which makes it more porous. As a result, my hair really soaked up the madder root color, I suspect. If you've never colored your hair, its probably a lot more healthy and a lot less dry than mine. Sadly, it may mean that it's also harder for you to get strong results from the madder root.hope this helps!
Hi,Silvie is right. Different hair textures soak up the color differently. A Hair Boutique regular experimented quite a bit with the madder root. What she did was to do a hot oil treatment to "open her hair cuticle" and then she used the madder root shampoo and conditioner. She would then leave the conditioner on for up to 1 hour and she said it really worked because her hair cuticle was open and soft from the conditioning treatment.I am not sure that this would work well for everyone but if you are curious you may want to try it for yourself.Let us know if you do.Best wishes,Karen> i used it for quite a while and got a red glowing> aura. i would leave the conditioner on a long time: 5> minutes minimum, and sometimes 15-30 minutes. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
> Hi,I have been a big fan of Madder root shampoo for a few years now. BUT I only use it to prevent my dyed-red hair from fading. If you want to add color -go to the Aveda store near you (or concept salon) and have a "custom color conditioner" made for you. I did this and it is AWESOME. There is 50% more color pigment in the custom color line than the Madder root products. It also comes in shampoo.
