This is the story- This week i colored my hair (permanent color using a combo of Sunset Brown, Red Ginger and Coppertone w/ 30 vol developer) and it turned out okay but I would have liked it a little more red/ brighter. Today I went to get my haircut and my hairdresser mentioned that my hair looked a little orange in the back at the roots. I told her what I had done and how I had wanted to come out and she suggested putting a semi-permanent color on. I agreed. Well it turned my hair darker! now it is the sort of plumish red color that I do not like at al. My husband says it is bordering on magenta. I didn't realize it till I got home. Called my hairdresser and she suggested washing it with Dawn. Well I have tried Dawn, Prell and even mixing some 40 vol developer with conditioner put nothing is helping. Is there anything I can do to get back to my original haircolor,of a few days ago, or I am stuck with this color for a few weeks. Luckily my hair is like titianium and can take alot .Thanks for your helpSusannah

The reason that the roots were orange is the heat of your scalp made the color process faster there. You should apply color to the scalp area last anduse a 1 shade lighter color on the first 1/2 to 1 inch of growth next to the scalp. The reason that the semi-permanent color was too much, was the porosity of your hair 'grabbed' or 'took' a much deeper deposit of the pigment than normal.I would bet money a strand test was not done properly before your hair was colored. A shorter timing than normal or 1-2 levels lighter color is normally needed to compensate for this.william
