QuoteReplyTopic: Help! Where did my healthy hair go? Posted: November 14 2001 at 11:10am
Hello everyone:
This is the first time being in this forum and I am very excited in hopes that you will be able to help me.
I used to have long wavy ( hip length) hair. All I used to do was wash and braid the night before. I have fine thin hair(but a lot of it, which appears heavy and thick) that normally gets oily in the roots. To prevent the oilees, I would use a hair color close to my hair color (Nice n Easy) and color my roots. This was done every two months with an occasional 1/2 trim every 8 weeks. Also, I never used a blow dryer and my hair had remained beautiful.
Then, (OUCH!) I decided to try the straight look. I finally had the nerve to go to a hairsylist in hopes that she wouldn`t do damage to my hair. But my fears came true. She not only knocked off 10 inches of my length but she also cut short layers around my face and blew it straight. It looked great for about 3 days until my first wash and first hair blow. I have read many articles on how to blow- dry hair safely and healthy but no matter how careful I have been with my hair, it seems to take on a life of the bad old witch.
Here is the painful part. My hair is now very frizzy, flyaways easily, and feels crunchy at the ends. The tips easily splits, ( I have to very frequently trim my ends but I`m not sure if they are split ends or burned hair). When I condition, it looks oily and feels stiff and hard. I can`t run my fingers thru it like I used to because it tangles easily, especially at the nape of my neck. It becomes a ball of tangled web. What`s worse is that I`m still trying to grow out these layers around my face, which look odd especially when I try a simple pony tail. For now I`ve been keeping it in a bun with hair clips to keep it from tangling or flying away so much. But I feel like a teacher and I miss my goddess look.
The good thing is that it has grown back to its original length in short of 3 inches. I do lead a healthy lifestyle with exercise and smart foods. However, how can I get my hair to feel healthy again? Are there any products out there that might help? Am I using the wrong ones, (Clairol Renewal 5X and creme conditioner)? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear about your experience. The best no-heat conditioner I know of is Monoi Oil. I have been getting fantastic results from it. Highly recommended! You might be able to get it at your local health food store (or purchase from the Long Hair Lovers site - http://www.bbahneycomm.com/longhairlovers/monoioil.html). Good luck and hang there!!

Your hair sounds fine, but not thin. Remember, fine refers to the diameter of the hairshaft itself (think texture) and thin refers to how much of it you have. Your hair sounds fine and thick!
