Dear Jade21,Thanks again for responding to me last night! Like I'd said in my second message to you, I washed my hair with the GPB cond last night. My hair felt soft while it was in it, but after I rinsed it out, if felt strange; it was very curly, which was great, but it felt a little stripped at the same time, and dry. This morning, I was rubbing through my hair with some jojoba oil (like I do every morning), and the curls were still there, but it was very dry; I gently tugged at a couple of ends and they snapped right off.I was planning to alternate between the GPB and J&A b/c I've been reading about how protein in excess can be damaging. But do you think I should stop using it altogether? I think I should use some protein-based product to help strengthen my hair, but maybe the GPB is too much. Then again, maybe I should use less of it and mix it with some water? Or, is it okay to use only the J&A and just not use any protein-based conditioner? What do you think? Also, about the hot oil treatment--I do that after I shampoo with my hair wet, rinse it, then use regular conditioner, right?I'm sorry about all the questions! Thanks so much for the help you've already given me!-Leslie

Protein does tend to dry out the hair so what I do is I use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards (I use Aphogee) to replace lost moisture.
Dear Leslie,You are very welcome and our boyfriends need to meet. Something tells me they would get along well with the TV thing. LOL!In view of what you have said to me about the GPB, I want you to stop using it. What I want you to try is to use the Jojoba and Aloe for a continuous period, then, if you like, come back to the GPB and try it later. I DO NOT like the sound of those ends snapping like that. If you want to alternate something with the J & A, use the Swimmers'Conditioner, Honeysuckle Rose conditioner, or the Rose Mosqueta conditioner. What I am advising you to do is what I did with my hair. Frankly, I was not concerned with experimenting when my hair was crackly dry. I wanted softness, manageability, and repair. I used the J & A for several months straight before I even looked at the GPB. In view of the fact that you will be washing several times per week, the alternating with the ones I mentioned will just break up any boredom you may experience:) But, think of the J & A as your core conditioner. It should define your curls well, and yet keep your hair soft, manageable and NO MORE SNAPPING ENDS:)The other thing I wanted to tell you is that jojoba oil, whether in Aubrey's conditioner or through a hot oil treatment, will strengthen your hair. You know what's confusing to me with this protein-possible hardness thing is that jojoba is high in protein just like the sebum on your scalp. It must be the form of protein that generates the hardness. It's the milk protein in the GPB with which people must be having a problem. My hair must be strange because, Leslie, I have never had a problem with this. With the weekly jojoba hot oil treatment, you do this BEFORE shampooing. What you want to do is warm the oil, so that it is not so hot as to scald your scalp. Saturate your hair with it from the scalp to the ends. Your hair should be glistening with oil. You can use a heating cap if you like. You can also do what I do and that is to apply the treatment the night before you are going to shampoo, place saran/or shower cap around your hair, then put on a satin nightcap and basically sleep with the oil in your hair overnight. Then, shampoo out of your hair and continue with your routine as usual. If your ends are dry and brittle, consider applying a small amount of jojoba to them daily. I do this every night and the jojoba is like a protective layer to avoid breakage. Start with the size of a pinpoint and work up to the right amount to avoid using too much oil.Hope this helps and, once again, if you are having problems drop me a line here or via e-mail. I do answer my e-mail:)All the Best,Jade
> Dear Jade21,Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to more manageable, curlier hair already. And Shana, thanks for responding, but I think I'll leave the GPB alone for now; maybe once my hair gets stronger I can use it and another conditioner like you--that does seem to work for alot of other people.-Leslie
