I was wondering what you all think of guys with highlights and wondering how guys hair is usually highlighted. I am a little ignorant as to the ways of the hair world so any info would be helpful.

Hi TimI think hihglights can look as good on guys as they do on gals. (i.e., brad pitt and seth green). It's all a matter of having them well done by a professional. To make them look natural, they should accentuate and blend well with your natural hair tone, in small pieces around the crown of your head--the area where your hair would normally become lighter from sun exposure.Of course, if you are not into a natural look, then you wouldn't have to follow the above logic. But even an "unnatural" look with hihglights is something to be left to the pros (unless you dont mind sporting orange hair!). Find a picture of highlights you light, and take it with you to the salon (actually, that's a good idea with whatever look you want to achieve). they should be able to approximate the look for you.:) silvie

there are two ways it can be done:a) a cap. after combing down the hair, a cap is put over the head (plastic, tight fitting thing) and small strands of hair are pulled through. these strands are lightened to create the highlights. a toner/color is applied after the hair is lightened to "fill in" the hair.b) foil: i think this is the better method. the stylist combs the hair, and captures a strand, coats the hair in the lightening solution, then wraps it in a small piece of foil (looks like regular old aluminum foil, but it's a bit different). this is repeated with several strands, which become the highlights. again, a toner/color is applied after the hair is lightened to "fill in" the hair.this should give you a pretty good idea of the process :) silvie
