hello,my hair is somewhat damaged from coloring and sun and it is naturally fine and wavy/curly but I have alot of it. I have grown it out to my shoulders and it is currently a frizzy, dull mess 10 minutes after I style it. I use either nexxus or back 2 basics shampoo and either nexxus or abba conditioner, artec smooth serum, rusk str8 and redkin glass and still FRIZZ! I also get breakage around the hairline. I can't skip the blow dryer because I am a cowlick queen and it is such a combo of straight and wavy that it really looks bad when it airdries. I'm getting it cut tomorrow but I don't want to have to chop that much off - what should I do?

dear emma-i suggest you be very candid with your stylist and exlain what you explained here to him/her. It sounds like your hair really could use a good cut, to get rid of the damaged part.Something very helpful--bring in a picture of a cut you'd like to have. Use this as a measure for how short you will/will not go. Be very clear and specific about your needs, and a good stylist will respect that. He/She should also be able to give you cut suggestions based on your shape of face, style preferences, cowlicks, lifestyle.Be sure to have a thorough conversation with your stylist BEFORE the cutting process begins! Dont let them rush you through the conversation or the cutting process or make you feel intimidated (this happens to too many people, and I believe it's the reason for bad cuts--lack of communication).good luck to you! :) silvie

> thanks silvie!Great advice-I found a picture I like - it is Courtney Cox when her hair was shoulder length and she had layers starting about chin length, although I don't want it quite so obviously layered and "friendsy" looking, it seemes like a good way to cut alot of damage off while leaving length at shoulders and body at the crown. The bulk of my damage is in the back toward the bottom on the top layer. I'm going to a new stylist tomorrow, specifically because I could not make my last stylist take 5 minutes before cutting my hair to find out what I wanted (although he took my $50 no problem!!)Thanks!

Hey silvie-Just wanted you to know that I got my haircut yesterday and it is a true work of art! I love it! I got layers starting about the chin to the shoulders, but she razored them so they would blend and not look so "friendsy" or "mushroom head" if you know what I mean. It still has the length I wanted but has a cute, flattering shape!I think I finally found a great stylist. She listened to me carefully and made some suggestions before cutting, then did a great job. I tipped her well - she deserved it! Woohoo!
