I tried the olive oil thing (see earlier post) but now the olive oil is STILL in my hair! I shampooed three times, but my hair still is VERY oily and has no shine or body, and feels eh!!! How do I get this stuff out?! I have a big family gathering this weekend and I can't go there looking like this.
angelica-i have tried using olive oil as a conditioner before and hada similar problem (some people have great success with it, but I believe it's totally dependant on your hair type/texture). Anyway, the good news is that it WILL come out. Get a good clarifying shampoo (Aveda makes a great one--they will even give you a sample if you go to an Aveda shop). Leave it in your hair about 5 minutes before rinsing out. You may have to repeat. Once your hair seems to have returned to normal, go ahead and condition. Repeated shampooing is needed to get out the olive oil, but the process will also strip your hair of it's needed natural oils, so do replace them by conditioning, once the olive oil build-up is gone.:) silvie

Hi, did you apply the shampoo before you rinsed the olive oil out of your hair? As you probably know, oil and water don't mix, so if you start rinsing your hair with the olive oil still in it, all you'll get is a big, greasy mess.If you wet your hair before you applied the olive oil, it should still be wet enough afterwards to distribute the shampoo. Once the shampoo is in your hair, then add a little water and start lathering. Once you have worked up a good lather, you can start rinsing out the olive oil completely. But, like Silvie said, you may have to shampoo more than once. Just make sure you use a gentle shampoo.Hope this helps. Good luck!!
My hair is totally dry and damaged from too many trips to the salon for permanent colors. I am deep conditioning it, getting regular trims, etc. but have not seen a great improvement and its been six weeks. I have heard washing your hair with olive oil is great for moisturizing. But after reading the last few posts, I am not sure its such a good idea. Has anyone tried this and had positive results? Do you apply it to dry or wet hair? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. As well, are semi-permanents (done in a salon) damaging to the hair at all or is it safe to have one every 4 weeks? Thanks!TL

Hi, I've found that taking the bottle of olive oil and turning it upside down tightly pressed into my palm and back up gives me just the right amount for my just past shoulder length hair. I rub the oil together to warm it a bit and pinch the ends of my hair. Doing this all over my layers. Then with the teeny bit that's left I smooth my hands down from the crown barely touching my hair. Leave it on for awhile (I've heard that heat from a towel or plastic helps) and shampoo as normal>My hair is totally dry and damaged from too many trips> to the salon for permanent colors. I would never tell someone to put olive oil in their hair except to cure lice. Olive Oil can clog your hair pores. The best way to get it out fast is to add baking soda to your next shampoo. anymore questions e-mail me at maryjane@leaco.netMichelle Truog
