I was told that color my reddish brown hair a very light ash brown I should use a light ash blonde dye and a drabber to take out the red tones(is a purplish color), but when I do strand tests it either looks orangey or even darker and still reddish. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to what would work, I would really appreciate it-- Thanks!--Laurie

I've tried just about every hair color on the spectrum. I've come to find that anything blonde is going to bring out the red in my hair and the ash makes no difference. The only color that has always removed any trace of red in my hair is a light ash brown, but that's probably a darker color than you want. I know you're probably trying to avoid this, but my only advice is to go to a professional hair colorist. Good Luck!

However, some reds will not neutralize, and require double processing, 'bleaching and toning' to achieve the desired results.william

You really should go to a professional to have this done. The only exception is if you are using professional hair color products from a beauty supply store. If you are just buy an extra ash drabber to add to your ash haircolor. In some cases you can prelighten your color and then add the haircolor.
