I'd like to know what the advantage is to using a 30 volume developer in your hair color formula?Would one achieve more lift (lightening) of color with 30 vol instead of a 20 vol, or will it only damage your hair?

The most important thing to do is read the directions on the color. In most, but not all, brands you would use 30 volume to lift 3 levels of color. If you are a level 6 a 30 volume will take you to a level 3.
