Hi,Is there such a comb as a REAL tortoise shell comb, or is that just how they are described looks-wise? Maybe they don't exist now, however maybe in the Victorian age they did? Just curious.Thanks,Holly

Hi, Holly!Real tortoise shell is very rare these days because it's now illegal to kill turtles for their shells. I collect decorative antique hair combs from the Victorian age, and my prize comb is real tortoise shell. I paid about $150 for it... a lot for a single, medium-sized comb.I've always wanted a real tortoise shell comb (non-decorative), but have never found one. You should definitely check out e-bay and inquire at antique stores. But, be prepared to pay a lot for the real thing. Also, buy an antique book so you can learn how to identify real tortoise shell. I've had a lot of people try to sell me combs that weren't real.Hope that helps!Sincerely,Jennifer
